What a THING to be able to put on your CV: my beef storganoff was powerful enough to burn down the Randolph Hotel.

DT this morning reports that the fire was caused by a chef using too much cognac to flambé the beef stroganoff and then goes on to print the recipe!! So if your restaurant or cafe is struggling turn to page.....

I think it will be a while!

Yes Shysal I too am making a Bucket List for next year. Clearly we come from a vintage year 1946.

I think your garden is just beautiful, secluded and peaceful. We too have a small Garden Room where we eat our breakfast whilst watching all the wild birds. It is not quite so rural as your garden, but still nice. We are both fortunate to live in such a lovely part of the world.

Anyway back to the Randolph. Do hope they are back to normal asap.

But.... since the fire is supposed to have started in the ground floor kitchen - and we saw the flames coming out of the roof - I have a feeling they may be minimising the actual damage? I count six floors.

NanKate, The Quince Tree looks great! I would prefer somewhere like it for a tea, but it didn't come up on my search. My 70th is not until next year either, but it is fun to plan ahead! Thank you.
I am sure I have walked in the area with the Oxford Fieldpath Society, it is very scenic around the locality.

Yes today they say there is fir damage in one area - the peak where flames were last night - but on three floors....

Camera doesn't show a thing except that the road is still closed.

great shame though, it's a popular hotel, it will need a rebuild in the centre of the top floor but hopefully that's all.

Report on Beeb says it's a scene of chaos there. It isn't. I do wish people would stop exaggerating.

Shysal I am not sure where you live in Oxfordshire, but have you ever been to the cafe at the Quince Tree at Stonor ? You could get your 70th Birthday Tea there. It is a fabulous cafe and pub plus a lovely shop attached to it and is set in beautiful countryside.

It's my 70th next year so I think I will need to check it out for myself.

Previous flames on top floor seem to have died down.
