I have one - invaluable after the hip replacement and useful for getting things off a high shelf, as long as I don't drop a can of tomatoes on my head. I didn't but it was a near miss. There are lots of them on Ebay.

I agree annodomini - lifting things from a high shelf can be tricky with a grabber. I was trying to grab a can from a high shelf, the can slipped and smashed two plates. I think grabbers are best for getting things from the back of cupboards or things that have fallen down the back of something.

Speaking of things on high shelves, my Mum used to keep her chip pan on a high shelf - full of lard, which set when cold. (I'm talking 1950s). It was only put back up on the high shelf after use when it had cooled and the lard had set.

One day, Dad, trying to be helpful, put the pan back up on the shelf while the lard was still liquid (but fortunately cool). Mum decided to cook some chips for my brother when he got in later, reached up for the pan and pulled it down and the liquid lard went all over her. It could have been a tragedy but whilst she was, understandably, furious, as she stood there dripping lard everywhere, my Dad and I could only laugh at the sight. Which made her fury even worse!

I have never ever put a chip pan on a high shelf since. But then I haven't got a chip pan.
