I have gone for the Seurat - lots of detail, so I have the choice of picking up a small detail or taking an overview. Thanks for all the suggestions.

We should definitely put together a Gransnet anthology of verse - I don't mean mine, but you others are great. Why can't we have a 'like' button on here?

The Fighting Temeraire (not sure of spelling) by Turner. I find the sight of this ship being tugged in to be broken up so sad.

Go on jingle
Have a go
Until you try
You'll never know

Here's a starter line I'm sure you've heard
"In the beginning was the Word".

George Stubbs' Molly Long Legs with her Jockey.

I'll win the race, I will not fail.
I wish I had a bloody tail!

Judith with the head of Holofernes (the version in the Burrell Collection) by Cranach the Elder:

A satisfied smirk,
A blood-boltered blade;
Good handiwork, Judith,
Holofernes is dead.

I would like to write a poem about the Creation of Adam from the ceiling of the Sistene Chapel. But I wouldn't know where to begin.

I don't think I should inflict any of my verse on other people. I just wanted to say how great that W.H. Auden poem Musée des Beaux Arts is. It is about a painting that shows ordinary life continuing all around while the drowning Icarus's legs protrude from the sea when he fell from the sky in a small almost unnoticed corner. I certainly can't compete with that.

Le Petit Dejeuner Sur l'Herbe by Manet

It seems like a nightmare
But it isn't dark
And here am I sitting
On grass in the park

Oh, Lor' I forgot
To put on my clothes
Now look at me here
Two thorns and a rose

My cheeks are blushed pinkly
My face is on fire
I'll cover myself
And get out of here

Jeez I'm a happy bunny, aren't I. I once did some feeling art. The tutor asked me if I was in therapy. When I said I wasn't she said I ought to be grin

Sorry thread hijack blush

It is certainly a very evocative painting.

I know life is tough for you at the moment and it probably expresses a great deal of what you are feeling.

The Scream

This is what I hear in my head
From the moment I rise
To returning to bed.

This is the task we have set ourselves at our poetry group.

Which painting would you choose?
