...what would you eat now, if you could choose from everything. Regardless of diet.

For me, it would be a piece of home-made treacle tart.

[sigh]

Donald ? Stripped?
What are you doing to that poor dog/cat?
He's the only one on gransnet shock

whitewave Thu 16-Apr-15 21:50:51

grin

Ana Thu 16-Apr-15 21:47:12

Sorry, not well up on doggy-talk.

whitewave Thu 16-Apr-15 21:45:37

NO the dog was stripped - do keep up!

Ana Thu 16-Apr-15 21:43:12

In the nuddy???! shock

whitewave Thu 16-Apr-15 21:40:13

Yesterday we stopped, whilst waiting for the dog to be tarted up - stripped -and had a pub lunch. It was a gloriously hot day we sat in the garden and had what I think was a lovely summer menu. Salmon in watercress sauce with vegetables followed by strawberry ice cream.

Egg custard tart, my Gran used to make them . I have never found any as good as those tasted.

Just had a tuna sandwich and a Liberte greek yogurt so am not hungry but that almond magnum keeps swimming into view. Might have to have one on Saturday if we go out for that big country walk we have been threatening to do.

Jomarie Wed 15-Apr-15 22:52:56

My mum's steak and kidney pie mashed potatoes and veg (spring broccoli - white - not purple) followed by her treacle (syrup) sponge pudding and custard. I've just had dinner but could easily eat the above, given half the chance, only if cooked by her though. She went to pastures new a good few years ago, - alas......

I bought some croissants in Waitrose yesterday and we had one for brekky today with apricot jam and coffee and yoghurt and they were yummy.

annodomini Tue 14-Apr-15 21:18:44

Alas, janer, Waitrose is my corner shop! What a misfortune. sad

janerowena Tue 14-Apr-15 20:42:47

Well actually - the almond magnum materialised! I had forgotten until I read here, I bought some mini-magnums for DS and he didn't eat them all.

I don't have a Waitrose nearby, which is extremely fortunate.

annodomini Tue 14-Apr-15 20:10:10

Oh, please, janer! Do you have to say those magic words? Just a tip - Waitrose have a great selection of choc ices which are at least as good as M*****. And they are not paying me commission, though certain members of my family might have even better bonuses next year. grin

janerowena Tue 14-Apr-15 19:21:47

I was thinking of chips tonight too. I can't think how I managed not to make any. I must be either getting better at self-deprivation, or my memory is going so fast that I forget what it is I am craving.

Am now craving an almond magnum.

rosesarered Tue 14-Apr-15 18:03:30

Jomarie..... Loved the story! I like all suggestions on here, but the chip butty has won the day, even though the last time I had one was about 40 years ago. Now, it's all I can think about.

I would like a large slice of chocolate cake and icecream please. Diagnosed as diabetic 3 years ago it's not going to happen unfortunately. I actually had a pate sandwich for lunch which I really like but not as much as chocolate cake

apricot Mon 13-Apr-15 20:26:52

I had lunch out, a ploughman's with no bread, so I could eat lots of cheese. Pudding was cherry pie and ice cream. I was so full afterwards that I couldn't have eaten anything.

rubysong Mon 13-Apr-15 20:12:03

A Yorkshire chisscake (baked cheesecake with rum soaked raisins in a pastry case). My mother made great ones. They were a delicacy in the village I came from.
(I haven't had lunch yet as I am currently in California.)

Jomarie Mon 13-Apr-15 19:52:07

Jinglbellsfrock mentioned thinking about food is nearly as good as eating it - which reminds me of a chat I had with my mother (I was only a youngster at the time) and she said that she and her mother (my much loved Granny) during the war and the severe rationing, would talk about all the things they would love to eat and would compose meals (four courses) and that after they had done this they actually felt quite full! A wonderful example of "mind over matter". This was apparently a really good game to play when in the bomb shelter. Apparently Grandpa didn't join in!!! He was, in my Granny's words, "a miserable bugger"!

rosequartz Mon 13-Apr-15 19:24:49

Yum Ariadne but without the tomato sauce!
I am not allowed to mention 'chip butties' in our house. DH thinks they are the lowest of the low grin
(and he likes corned beef hash, no accounting for taste!).

Ariadne Mon 13-Apr-15 19:21:45

Chip shop chips and thick white buttered bread. With tomato ketchup and salt. Low tastes, me!

Iam64 Mon 13-Apr-15 18:15:55

Well, it's 6.15 pm so it seems years since I had lunch, an unsatisfactory sandwich from the local shop as I was between 'things'. I fancy mashed potatoes with butter and some of the free range pork sausages they sell at the Ludlow food shop, along with some green vegetables. What I have is an M&S thai fish dish….

annodomini Mon 13-Apr-15 17:56:21

Can you stop at one blini, harrigran?

harrigran Mon 13-Apr-15 17:33:03

Smoked salmon with a blob of crème fraiche on a blini.

janerowena Mon 13-Apr-15 17:12:01

ooh, fish and chips.... sad I'm back to the gruel routine now, sadly.

I must get into my dress
I must get into my dress
I must get into my dress
