Cynthia Lennon has died

Unfortunately really, John Lennon was my favourite Beatle - shame he was such a bounder.

My favourite Beatles Song is "Let it Be." Paul wrote it about his mother and it always brings tears to my eyes. I think Paul was the superior song writer and the heart of the group.

Not my favourite NotTooOld It was Juliet, The Four Pennies , that was playing.
It reminded me of dancing to it and the boy I was dancing with. I could almost have been there.

Both John's and Paul's childhood homes are owned by the National Trust. DH and I went on a tour of them a couple of years ago. It was wonderful

My song is playing on Sounds of the Sixties, Radio 2.

As an aside, I happened to be on a TV programme recently (or I think it was on the news) when Paul McCartney's childhood home was up for auction ... it didn't sell for a vast amount. Not that much interest I suppose.

glamma how interesting that you went to the cavern when it was all happening. I watched the story of Cilla Black and some of it was set when she started out at the cavern.

not Marmite is the expression people use as shorthand for you either love it if hate it - in other words have strong feelings about, no middle way.

I believe Yoko Ono bought John's family home in Liverpool when it came up for sale. I think it might now be National Trust property. Perhaps she gave it to the NT.

Tegan - I agree with you about Macca's more recent music and I couldn't believe it when he played Hey Jude at the closing ceremony of the Olympics. Why?

I read Cynthia's book as I said above and I know it is only one side of the story but she said he offered to treat her to a short holiday and persuaded her to go and when she came back he had Yoko firmly ensconced in their house. She said that when she arrived at the house they were both sitting there together and they just ignored her. Obviously John's version would probably have been different. I got the impression from the book that she wasn't full of self pity, she was just telling her version of events. The cheek of Yoko paying tribute to her on social media after her death.

NotToOld yes that report from Hunter Davies was true I am led to believe,Cynthia came home with Julian to find JL and YO in their home with Yoko wearing Cynthia's dressing gown,what a horrible man to have done this kind of thing to his wife,I was a massive Beatles fan and used to go every lunchtime when I could to Cavern but there where quite a few who didn't take to JL he always thought he had delusions of grandure and couldn't wait to leave Liverpool for good.

Acccording to his autobiography he is . He's definately the one who loves performing and writing etc. But I'm thinking more in terms of his relationship with the girl that Brian Jones treated badly [Anita Palenberg?]combined with the respectful way he talks about his other relationships...plus his long and happy marriage to his second wife [he's a real family man]. As with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers; their brick/anchor seems to be Benmont Tench [who???]the organist.

I agree roses. Julian was his son and he seemed to show a lack of responsibility or care for the poor boy (obviously we only know what we are told). Tegan - I can totally see what they saw in Patti Boyd. I SO wanted to be her, I thought she was lovely. Linda bugged me too.

Tegan - I'm puzzled - why don't you really count Paul?

Perhaps it would be fairer to blame John rather than Yoko for the way he treated Cynthia?He was a strange and selfish man.

It wasn't just George; everyone seemed madly in love with Patti Boyd and I could never see what was so attractive about her. For some reason I was fine with Paul being with Jane Asher but Linda really bugged me. Strangely enough it seemed to be Ringo that ended up with really glamorous wives [although the woman that George eventually married is very classically beautiful].
