My daughter has just called from New Zealand with news that my granddaughter was born two hours ago at 27 weeks gestation. She weighs just under a kilo and is now in NICU. I'm shaking with shock and frustration - she's so far away and all I want to do is get on a plane and go and hug my baby.
I'm on my way to Manchester as my mum goes into hospital for her cancer op today so I'm staying overnight at my sister's. The household is asleep and I've rarely missed my husband more than I do right now - he's in Newcastle and both his phones go straight to voicemail. sad

Thank you all for your support, prayers and thoughts. Sitting with my mum now and haven't mentioned daughter's situation as I don't want her to be upset before her operation - waiting for news and praying that no news is good news.

Never a more appropriate moment for that reminder 'Keep Calm and Carry On' eh, ga? It's tough keeping it altogether. I hope your mum's op goes smoothly flowers

grannyactivist try not to worry too much about baby. My DS's baby was born at 27 weeks gestation on Jan 6th this year. She has had absolutely fantastic care in NICU and came home last Thursday weighing just 5lb. A little fighter. They can do so much for this dinky ones nowadays, In fact there were several babies in the unit also very very early who have all gone home. It is a great worry I know and being so far away must be tough for you. Sending many hugs and healing thoughts to your tiny DGD. Private message me if you like.

Oh granny-a. I'm so sorry I have only just opened this thread. You must have felt so shaken, and alone, early this morning. I hope all has gone well for your mum, and that your new little grandaughter manages to make good progress.

God bless you all. x

Mother and granddaughter both very poorly.
My heart goes out to anyone who has to deal with life's ups and downs alone as I'm missing my husband so much and he's only at the other end of the country. I'm counting him as one of my blessings right now.
