Some of the wards at QE hospital Brum faced the medical school dissection room. ( in those days we actually dissected a body. One between five of us)
When the weather got hot, we used to open the windows!
A few minutes later the sisters of the opposite wards would be phoning!
'MY PATIENTS CAN SEE YOUR BODIES!'

My next room in a Nurses Home looked directly into the postmortem rooms- I had to keep my curtains closed
The one in London was opposite Harrods, 8' x 4' and you had to stand on the bed to open drawers or the wardrobe. The kitchen had the original Victorian fittings, in the basement and had no hot water it electricity !

I was better catered for. My room in the nurses home overlooked part of the grounds where one of the unit managers kept his soay sheep! Where my sister trained overlooked the cemetery though.

I trained at GRI and my room in the Nurses Home looked straight onto the Necropolis. I found it an interesting place full of history about the founding fathers of Glasgow. Tobacco Lords etc.

Dudley rd geriatric unit in Brum had a lovely view of where the occupants were heading.

My training hospital largely overlooked an enormous cemetery-my dear dad's very first comment when we arrived at the Nurses Home was 'Blimey, they've got a pretty poor success rate here, hope I'm never a patient'
You certainly need a good sense of humour!
Plans for a new hospice near here were rapidly dropped after someone pointed out that sharing a driveway with a crematorium wasn't too clever a bit of planning........
It does make you wonder at some planners' intelligence!

A well known Scottish hospital with a psychiatric wing gave the depressives ward a lovely view of a blank wall. In Glasgow Royal Infirmary, the ward I was briefly in at the age of 17 had a view of the huge necropolis.

Galen, we will be mainly in Kent (Canterbury area) and East Sussex when we visit the UK. Shall hire a car but it will depend on how DH is feeling as to how far we venture.

I forgot to mention that DH's appointment this morning was at the brand new oncology centre which has been built alongside our state-of-the-art General hospital. It was all shiny and new with huge picture windows affording a panoramic view of..........The Morgue

We sat watching a procession of funerals as we waited but we had to laugh at the 'black humour' of it

anno the very same thing has happened to me from time to time. Isn't it frustrating.

I should have been doing my pal's ironing today. I shall be doing it tomorrow instead. At the same time, I shall be in charge coping with three extremely boisterous dogs. From the moment I walk into her house, the dogs go into hyper-mode. When one barks...the rest join in. They bark at the slightest sound. They bark when one has a biscuit and the other two want it (even though they have a bowl of biscuits to squabble over.) They bark whenever the telephone rings...in fact, there is barely a quiet moment for the entire ironing session. I try to adopt a Zen-like frame of mind.

The snow shower has been and gone and we remain free of the white stuff.

It is time for me to log off and do useful stuff aboot the hoos. My energy level is extraordinarily stagnant. Although...boast coming on...I have pedalled the exercise bike for a full twenty minutes. As I was alighting from the bike, a kind neighbour rang the doorbell and handed me a box of chocs. Oh dear! I have said to MacSporran that, instead of the usual tablet of chocolate that we treat ourselves to mid-evening we shall enjoy a chocolate from the box and most certainly not feel guilty.

Great! I was just finishing off a post, must have pressed a wrong key somewhere and the whole thing disappeared. Bella, you and your husband are having such a traumatic time and I can say no more than everyone else already has. You have such inner strength, but must by now be feeling very drained. We'll be happy to see you here any time for a and moral support.

hilda that was hilarious, thank goodness it wasn't a cat - we used to have one who would sleep in the washing machine or, even better, a warm tumble dryer...... One at least one occasion the stupid creature had washing chucked in on top of him!.

Bella All that I can do is echo all the loving messages that are coming your way from we kitcheners. It is really difficult to find the words that may be of some comfort to you. I feel that I want to hold you in my arms. As all your Granspals have already said, you are a very positive lady and we trust that a visit to attend your sister's 70th birthday party will help to bring some well-deserved cheer into lives.
I also hope that your cat will respond positively to the injections.

Hilda, I posted a photo on here of DGD2 sitting watching as her bunny went round in the washer. She had agreed to have him washed but then refused to move until he came out!
