I react horribly as well. At the moment it feels as if someone is jabbing a red hot needle into my left ankle joint. I'm wondering if I've got a screw loose ( in my arhrodesed ankle ) and its impinging on the nerve as it passes behind the lateral epicondyle?

That sounds miserably painful Galen, I assume that removal of the screw isn't an option if found to be the cause? That must be so trying for you and possibly difficult to treat with analgesics too.
I've got 4 sysmoidal (?) screws plus plates + 15 more screws and was warned that the longer screws might break, but they wouldn't be removed unless troublesome. It's the aching and swelling that exasperates me

I was very disappointed but it was made up for when my bags were searched instead! DS, DH and DDIL very amused especially when a number of pouches of baby food were found; the DH told them it was because I'd lost all my teeth, the b....r!

The ending was better than the one in the book, soop! Let's just say that now that poor little boy does at least have a future!

I'm not stalking you loopyloo but having read your post higher up am now
wondering if we are twin wrecks! Not only do we share dodgy teeth we appear to have similar ankles. Mine is pinned and plated to within an inch of it's life, after being knocked over by an very friendly dog eight years ago. I had one pin removed after about two years as the pain was, as Galen describes, unbearable. The consultant said the bone had calcified over the screw. It is still painful at times but nothing like it was.

DH has a dodgy knee on the opposite side to my ankle, when we limp along together we look for all the world as if we're in a three legged race.

I use a wheelchair through airports, they just wand me!
The problem I have is with my luggie and its battery and the porter system.
Being a solo disabled traveler is not the easiest, in fact I think this year might be my last.

I have a very low threshold for drugs so, 4 instead of 2 co-codamol was far too high a dose for me. Staying upright was impossible never mind driving to do the school run. DH thought it was hilarious and couldn't wait to tell both DDs about me lying on the sofa spaced out!

janer, airport scanners get me every time - shoulder and hip. It was quite funny when the security bloke at Auckland airport said 'You've got a hup'. Took a couple of repeats for me to realise that this was NZ for 'hip'. But for the most part it just ceases to be funny!

Let me join the ankle brigade, my left is also pinned and plated having fallen down 3 stairs 6 years ago. It has taken a lot of the weight since I had my failed knee replacement on the opposite side. I am almost fit for the knacker's yard.

Thank you so much for the sympathy and cat integration tips kitcheners. I have ordered a Felliway infuser, perhaps my family will all become chilled out if we sniff hard enough What helpful people you all are.

It's sad, but in a strange way quite comforting, to hear that others have similar trials and tribulations.

I've never done a Saga holiday but often wonder if the scanners would go mad when a Saga party went through security!

. I had a chuckle at your NZ 'hup'. When DH's cousin from NZ stayed with us for a while he had to repeat three times that the 'eeeg' he wanted was an egg!

You lot have made me chuckle. Your sense of humour is as effective as any tonic. I love anno's comment regarding a group of Saga travellers inching their way through security. I can imagine the non-stop beeps and red flashing lights. A bit like a disco.

It is a comfort of sorts that many of us share certain quirks (for want of a better word)...we are a band of survivors. If only the mind could be fixed with a screw or new fuse. My biggest dread is losing my ability to know myself. I fear dementia more than any form of physical deterioration.

I was reading an article only the other day about crematoriums finding that the amount of metal inside the furnace after a cremation has increased drastically over the past ten years. They send it off for recycling, but are not allowed to keep the proceeds, so it is all donated to hospices for children. I rather like that.

Thank you soop. We duly presented ourselves at the hospital this morning to be told the result of the CT scan was not out yet . However, the blood work showed that DH's tumour markers have tripled so he is to start chemo again next Tuesday. We will also find out the scan result then as well. Not what we had hoped for, but we are still able to go to the UK for my sister's 70th. The oncologist wasn't happy about DH traveling abroad, but under the circumstances, he has sanctioned it.

Have also had trauma with our cat, who has to be taken to the vet on a daily basis for injections, so I feel all of a dither today and can't even look forward to a to drown my sorrows

Oh I am so sorry to read this latest Bellasnana. Is there any point in reminding you that you have faced this before and risen above it? Maybe that is cold comfort and you, your DH and the family have had to go through so much, it really is just not fair.

There is not much more I can say except to send a {hug} and say thT we are right behind you and there are plenty of comforting shoulders in the kitchen should you need one.

Totally unrelated to what has gone before, but here's a story I hope will make you all smile.
DD was doing laundry. She had stripped the bed of dgd and removed several dolls etc from the bedding. She put them in the washer and set it going. Suddenly Daphne (a Scooby Doo character doll) appeared in the washing machine window. Dgd squealed and pleaded with DD to get her out! Meanwhile Dgs3 who is 2yrs old ran and fetched Shaggy (another Scooby Doo doll). Dgd was still pleading with her mum to get Daphne out and was in tears! Each time Daphne appeared in the window dgs3 waved Shaggy at her and shouted "hello" and each time she disappeared in among the sheets he waved Shaggy and said "oh, bye". DD explained to Dgd that she couldn't open the machine mid cycle, and she would have to wait until the programme ended.
DD had to phone me as she was having a terrible time trying not to laugh. Fortunately Daphne survived her tumble in the washing machine, and was none the worse for her swim. Dgd has learned a valuable lesson. Don't leave your dollies in bed when you go to school.
