Murder of 26 year old hostage

It is all so sad. We can only admire her bravery and compassion in being there in the first place.

This news is a few days old now and the video footage of the so-called burnt out building that ISIS claim she was killed in by a Jordanian air strike is widely believed to be non factual, there was no sign of smoke etc coming from the building. I think it is widely believed this was ISIS propaganda but sadly with an element of truth, in that she was dead.

I think they were using her in a similar way as the Japanese hostage, they had murdered them but kept the deaths quiet until they could get some mileage out of it, that's my belief anyway.

There was a US spokesperson who said she was believed to be dead but I think they have more information as to how she died than disclosed. They said at the same time 'there are other US hostages'.

I could be wrong obviously but that's how I read between the lines.

Whatever is the truth they are pushing the buttons for sure.

I was merely quoting the BBC website which said she had died in a Jordanian air strike although " no proof was offered" but did not explicitly cast suspicion. You will see that I said that IS were morally and legally obliged to keep her safe and I have yet to hear details of the conditions of her captivity. I have no intention of attempting to justify the wrongness of her captivity.

Its by no means certain she died in an air raid yet that is only what the IS have said in public, they have been in touch with the family privately to tell them how and when she died.. the family have not divulged that information as yet. The details have apparently been verified by the US intelligent services.

However it happened its a tragedy for her family and one can only hope it was quick for her.

Soutra - I think that there has been some doubt expressed that she died in the air raid but no matter how it happened IS are ultimately responsible.

If I have got the means of her death wrong Soutra I apologise, however why was she being held captive in the first place? It is a very sad situation. Her poor parents, family and friends must be heartbroken.

Hopefully it was quick- the others have been horrendous.

I understand she died in an air raid, so although IS bear the guilt of holding her hostage and were under a moral and legal obligation to keep her safe, is it strictly true to describe her death as "murder"?
If there is more detailed news I am willing to stand corrected.

They are so evil - she was only trying to help people in need.

The absolute disregard for human life is utterly abhorrent. I cannot find the words to describe my loathing for these acts of barbarism and the perpetrators.
