I'm with those who hate bras and wish I didn't have to wear one (sometimes I don't but it's not a pretty sight.)

Why can't M and S synchronise their sizing? Even in the same style, the sizes differ. And why do they have them in those awful boxes that fall off the rack as soon as you look at them? They seem to hang them in such a way that you can't see the size unless you move some of the boxes and then they all fall on the floor. Grr. I refuse to pick them up when that happens.

I once had a bra fitting in M and S and it was completely useless. I came away with two bras which, when I tried them on again at home, did not fit me at all so I had to take them back.

Another time I had a fitting in John Lewis in Watford by a bad tempered woman who made it plain she hated her job. This time I came away with two bras that were much too tight. It was too far to take them back so I made myself wear them but they were so uncomfortable they did not last long.

After my recent op my daughter suggested getting some of those all in one bras that are advertised as being the most comfortable bra you will ever wear. DD said I needed a Medium (I'm a size 12/14) but I insisted on ordering Large as I can't bear a tight band round my middle. When they finally arrived through the post from Debenhams I tried them on and, blow me, even the Large gripped my like a vice so they will have to go back, too.

I'm like you Nottooold I cannot find a really comfy bra. I occasionally dispense with mine but I look like one of my schoolteachers 50+ years ago.

What I want is one preferably made of cotton, so I don't itch.
Wide straps that don't dig in
High up the sides so my skin doesn't hang over
A bit of padding as I am reasonably small in the boobs department.

Still looking and continuing to wear a bra that us about 7 years old.

Triumph make a bra called Doreen that seems to be targeted at us older ladies but just the look of it puts me off. Has anyone tried it and is it comfortable?

They've been making the Doreen bra for over 50 years, so a lot of people must have found it comfortable.

M&S's style number 733/8094A is very comfortable (have just been to read the number on the box) wide straps and high sides, wide satin binding on the edges so it doesn't chafe. 59% polyamide, 25% cotton, 16% elastane, no padding or wires. £16.

Is that the striped one? I tried to find it, but it didn't work. I bought a really horrible one to sleep in from them last year, it squashed me upwards and downwards, so that I looked as if I had two flattish rounded shelves instead of breasts.

NanKate;I bought quite a few expensive bras last summer but 99% of the time I wear my black Asda sports [well, I think it's a sports] bra. It isn't cotton [nylon and elastine] but it's padded [which I need] and extremely comfortable. I had some Lejaby bras that were comfortable and flattering but, as usual, when I came to buy them again they'd been discontinued.My big problem, clothes wise are tights. I'm short but have very fat legs and nothing seems to fit me. However I found some thick black tights that fit me really well; Asda again, and incredibly cheap [£4 for three].

Many of my unsuccessful buys are shipped out to Third World countries as I often donate them after 2 or 3 uncomfortable wearings. They are virtually as new.

Elegran it does look a lot better than their previous efforts. I shall give it a try.

I have to wear bras as defensive armoury in bed as DBH has extremely sharp pointy elbows.

It isn't as stripy in real life as it looks in the photos. The stripes are in the weave.

I thought it might be. I like the shape much better though, you wouldn't believe how awful their last unwired ones made me look.

I bought another Asda bra yesterday and it doesn't feel as comfortable as my first one;maybe it just needs to soften up a bit. It's called Soft and Comfy and it was £6. I also bought one from Boots ages ago called a Genie bra which I even more comfortable [I think it was £10] but they may only do it in white.

You can get a 3 pack of genie bras (white, nude and black) from Amazon for £9.99 at the moment - worth a look!

I very much doubt it, but you can never tell how a thread morphs.

I think we felt safe moving onto the subject of lingerie given that Percival doesn't wear macs; then agin it might have been a cunning plan .
