Flipping frozen shoulder - any remedies?

I had a frozen shoulder about 5 years ago and didn't realise that they get better over two years whether you treat them or leave them alone. confused I spent a fortune on physiotherapy and sure enough, two years later, it was better!!

Anyway, it's back! angry I've found some exercises on the internet and I'm taking painkillers etc and using voltarol. Does anyone have any other suggestions? And, is it likely to keep occurring? And, if so, can I do anything to prevent it? And, what causes it?

Very sore point with me! Had a hospital appointment on Monday, really hoped there might be progress, but no, just a different set of exercises to do etc etc.

This has been going on since last October, first osteopath, had to stop that due to cost, then referral to physio, then Senior physio, now what is called "orthopaedic liaison/interface ", basically another bloody physio!!

Aaaarrrggghhh!

We bought the basic Miami, special offer. It's been great:

Two things I'd recommend- Shiatsu (I know a wonderful Shiatsu 'healer' who helped me loads, especially with all the emotional trauma with family and my parents and our move- but she is in Stamford. I could ask her if she could recommend someone in your area of Leics Kitty.

And the second is a jacuzzi. I couldn't afford a 'real' one, but to help with my knee we bought a blow-up one- and it is marvellous. I use it twice a day at 39C - to exercise (my new knee) and relax- it is helping me loads. Happy to give detail if you wish.

The left shoulder in terms of 'Chakras' is related to the feminine side. When I had massages for my shoulder in Sharm a few years ago- in the middle of the crisis with our DD2 and just after my mum passed away - he asked 'do you have issues with female relatives' - my mind was blown. And when those issues were resolved, I woke up one day and the pain (severe) was gone. flowers

My frozen shoulder got better on its own after a long long time. I was too cowardly to accept the offer of a Cortisone injection. Now my neck is awful and I don't know whether that will get better on it's own or not.

I haven't seen JaneRowena post for ages. Has she left Gransnet?

Stansgran Tue 27-Sept-16 10:54:15

I had a tear in the rotator cuff and was told that most people over 50 do but it bothers some and not others. I had a cortisone injection and physio and have been fine until a few weeks ago. These things are sent to try us.

I'd advise an x-ray to see if there is any arthritis in the hip joint as that can be extremely debilitating. If it's bursitis, I think a cortisone injection could be very helpful. My excellent GP does injections and the one I had in my shoulder worked wonders - almost two years ago and no trouble since.

So sorry to hear that. Mine came, stayed and went ... and sofar, never came back.

Won't say why, but which one is it? (will reveal later). flowers

I injured my shoulder in January and I still haven't got full movement of my arm despite doing the exercises. I bought a pulley from Amazon.

NFK and shysal - thanks. I have sent the link.
I have no idea whether his pain is inside or outside the groin. I will ask my other friend later on today as she probably knows.

Jan51. I happen to have frozen shoulder ag ain I think[other arm this time], but I havent been to doctor for definite diagnosis yet.
And I have been thinking this week that a bent arm when using the computer is not helping it much, and keeping it straight seems to be better. Thanks. And I will try those exercises.

I woke up one morning and could only move my right arm a few inches in any direction. Doc gave me anti inflamatories which helped pretty quickly. I also saw a physio who advised that it is important to try and keep the ligaments that raise the arm stretched as they can shorten if not made to work. She told me to thread a dressing gown cord through the bannisters and stand below it holding each end of the cord. Gently pull the cord down with the good arm so that the bad arm raised as much as you can stand, repeat several times.. We don't have bannisters so used to sit with my back to the bathroom door and put the belt over the hook. I did find this helped and never had a repeat episode.

shysal Tue 27-Sept-16 08:47:25

I too was going to suggest that it could be bursitis of the hip. familydoctor.org/familydoctor/en/diseases-conditions/bursitis-of-the-hip.html

NfkDumpling Tue 27-Sept-16 08:44:34

Of course I should have said maybe possibly arthritis! Only their doctor can say!!

NfkDumpling Tue 27-Sept-16 08:43:22

I've had frozen shoulder several times and use alternating heat/cold pads for relief as I haven't had the courage to face a cortisone injection. And eventually it goes away.

I also get a very similar pain in my hip on the outside of the joint which apparently is bursitis. Perhaps your friend has this? If the pain is inside the groin it's probably arthritis.

obieone Tue 27-Sept-16 08:34:52

Sorry to resurrect a health thread from 18 months ago.

I am especially calling Coolgran65, and anyone else who has had frozen hip.

A friend of mine has recently been diagnosed with frozen should and had an injection or injections. But he is getting many pains elsewhere particularly in the hip. He thought it might be frozen hip, but his doctor says such a thing does not exist, as it is not in her BMA book or whatever it is called.

Hence me trawling gransnet and this post. My friend is in much pain.
Thank you

If it is only Coolgran65 that has had this, I will try pming her.

I think all frozen shoulders have different causes and one therapy does not fit all.

I had a shoulder tendon repair just over a year ago and trying to getting my shoulder working again after six weeks in a sling was a bugger very painful indeed.
I was, thankfully, nagged by the physios to take my pain killers before doing the exercises ad work through the pain or I would lose the movement. It's pretty good now but still aches a bit a times.

I would give accupunture a try. It worked for me several years ago now with tension headaches and a bruised coccyx which had been causing me problems for weeks. That began to feel better almost from the first treatment.

How it worked I don't much care.

I wonder if using the computer so much isn't helping my shoulder - or even if it's caused it. The only way I can raise my arm up and down is to hold it with the other one. It's OK when it's up though! Frozen shoulder is more common than I thought.

NanKate Mon 02-Feb-15 07:00:33

It was just one arm.

NanKate Mon 02-Feb-15 06:59:30

Morning Kitty you poor thing a frozen shoulder is miserable. Mine was exactly like yours all down my arms and fingers. The Doc said it would take 2 years to clear up, much too long for me to wait.

Like Glammama I had acupuncture and he said he could clear the frozen shoulder in about ten weekly sessions and he did. Can you get a recommendation of a good acupuncturist ? He worked miracles with me.

Very best of luck. flowers

kittylester Mon 02-Feb-15 06:25:01

Thank you all! looks like I'll have to wait it out!

I hope everyone else suffering from muscular aches and pains gets better asap! flowers
