Today I will be more disciplined...

I just can't stop watching Game of Thrones. I'm now watching the commentary on series 3 [along with the other special features]. And series 4 is out soon. I'm beyond help, especially as I've now joined a 'Game of Thrones' forum as well [but thankfully tending to avoid it due to spoilers]. And the Grand National entries are out so I have to study the form in depth. How did I ever find time to go to work?

My standards have dropped too, but I set myself a task every day on top of all the usual stuff that needs doing. I use this forum as a treat to be used only as I finish each task/s. I find that if something exciting and new comes up, by some miracle the energy is still there. I now understand how MiL can stay in bed all day on her laptop for months, then go on a month's tour of China that includes a great deal of walking.

I had my DS put a blocker on GN via Firefox, but when it comes on I just switch to Chrome. I don't tell him.

I have probably said that before on here. It is my pet theory.

I am convinced laziness comes along with the menopause. I think we lose the hormones that gave us that 'nesting instinct'. Maybe we shouldn't worry. Just enjoy the 'puter, books and catch-up tv. Why not? We've done the nesting bit.

My self-discipline is at rock bottom, and it does worry me.

BC (before computers) I worked, took work home for the evening and still managed to keep on top of housework, do the garden, cook lovely meals and feel in charge of things. I sewed too and brought up three children and although life was hectic, I coped and felt a sense of urgency and the need to keep some semblance of organisation.

What happened to me???

Now I only work two half days a week and in virtually all my spare time (when I am not with fiancé and getting out and about) I do sod-all around the house. I keep the guest loo spotless and the living room in a reasonably tidy condition (but don't inspect the carpet too closely because the vacuum cleaner doesn't get an outing often these days) because if visitors call I won't be too ashamed of my sloth and slovenly ways. Other doors in the house stay firmly closed!

It's awful. I don't watch much day-time TV because I think so much of it is rubbish, but who invented flippin' catch-up TV? I can watch decent TV progs during the day now. My laptop is also much-used. I have thought of secretly stashing it in son's car so he takes it to work with him each day and then I'll have time to do the jobs that are piling up!

This laziness/self-indulgence brings with it such guilt. Having too many days in which I achieve very little doesn't bring satisfaction at bedtime. I know this is my time and I can say "I am worth it!" after being busy for much of my life, but I am afraid that doesn't wash or make me feel good about the time I waste. I actually set an alarm on my phone now for late afternoon to remind me to get up and start preparing the evening meal.

I need someone to confiscate my TV, laptop and books. I might then move myself a bit more and spend my time more productively.

You can only get that if you live within reach of it, usually in cities. It's fibreglass cables. No chance of that out here. We would be on it in a flash if we could.

Why haven't I got any more done today than I did yesterday? I finished up doing jobs in the evening again. I was so determined to get on fast today. I've got a list too.

Tegan my internet has been awful lately especially in the evenings. Son says I should change to BT Infinity (whatever that is )

My pooter is terrible; sometimes it works fine but other times it's so slow and crashes all the time. Don't know if it's the pooter itself or the broadband connection here .

I got jobs done yesterday evening.

My internet went down at 6.30 yesterday evening. Son arrived home at 10-ish and put my mini I-pad on his I-phone so I could get online again. I don't know how that works!

What is it with computers at the minute ? mine has been playing up all week and have had to use DH's to read mail. I feel guilty depriving him so make it brief and as a consequence I have found time to clean and tidy cupboards and other house-wifely things [smug grin]

Oh dear I have been on GN, FB and my online paper since 8 o clock and have just got to this thread. Need to be more disciplined!!!

Curtains are now up [only took 3 days ]. Sat down to watch Wolf Hall and iplayer had stopped working again but thankfully, with a bit of fiddling about I got it going again after an hour or so, but I was well fed up when it happened . And I went to the bank and the Co op today as well! And this morning I did three days worth of washing up before I went out ....

Hope you are feeling suitably smug Tegan, I'll make do with feeling guilty about not cleaning out the kitchen cupboards
Have cleaned the house and got the washing ironed, but when I peered in to the cupboard I suddenly felt the need to sit down with a cup of coffee and a
wedge slither of coffee and walnut cake

I got to the gym [hurrah]. Now going to watch Wolf Hall.

This morning I was going to clean windows, take things to a charity shop and sort out some genealogy files - it's raining and BBC have Andy Murray match on, so a case of priorities - hope Murray can get to the finale,most first set

Tegan Stop being so hard on yourself.

I've managed to wash clothes ready for my weekend away. I took the doggie to the shop this morning and have fed her, me and the budgies. I have slept and watched tele. My lazy self centred son can do some cleaning while I am away, see how he likes to tidy up after me instead of me cleaning all his s**t up all the time. Sorry, but he makes me feel so down at times.

Not necessarily Tegan..... one curtain in our spare room still doesn't go to the middle since we moved 15 months ago. I tried to loosen the string to make it fit and it got in a terrible knot. I just close the blinds if dgc are staying. Curtain repair is on my to do list, but today I managed to take up dh's summer weight trousers and add extra length/buttons to DGS 3's salopette straps. Feeling very virtuous.

I am revelling in having the excuse that there are still some things I just can't do in this post operative phase! However, each day I can do more, am more mobile and am also enjoying being able to do them. The only discipline is the twice daily exercise routine, which is paying dividends.

Having said that, my cleaner is in weekly at the moment, the heavy washing is back from a service wash, so all I am doing really is pottering about and making easy meals. Even then, DD, who is also vegetarian, is likely to pop down with a helping of last night's supper. Spoilt, really - but appreciating every little minute.

I'm still sorting the curtains out [ironing, putting hooks in etc]. Why does it take me so long to do things like this? It's just taken me ages to unpick a knot because I drew the string at the top too short . I'm sure someone else would get them ironed and put up in an hour

Yesterday my computer crashed and I read two magazines, made a pan of soup and cleaned the bathrooms. In the afternoon I caught up with recorded TV programmes and did several crosswords. I could hardly remember life before GN and FB.

Don't worry Tegan that's me most days. I am disciplined not to come on here during the day as I get other things done, This Morning, Loose Women, Judge Rinder, Pointless, you get the picture, lol, but then I just nip on around midnight, usually when checking my bank and lo and behold, it's five in the morning and the doggie is giving me yawns and sad looks. I come off then and take her to bed. I need not to come on late at night. I was tonight just looking for some new tops in New Look but still not looked, it's too tempting to see what is new on here.
