Well, hello Friday! Managed to slice my thumb open on my pill cutter this morning.....bathroom sink looked like Dracula's! Now nursing very sore thumb with large plaster on it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 23-Jan-15 10:42:01

Why didn't you swallow the whole pill?

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 10:46:30

Cos I'm on 7.5mg and they're prescribed in 5mg tablets. Used to get ones with a break line on them, but last prescription was from different manufacturer with no break line. Do

Do you think I should get injury lawyers on the case? grin grin

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 23-Jan-15 10:50:24

Get a safer pill cutter.

Oh flowers btw.

Anne58 Fri 23-Jan-15 10:50:38

Ouch!

merlotgran Fri 23-Jan-15 10:55:43

What's a pill cutter? I've always used a veg knife shock

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 10:57:44

Thanks for the flowers Jings! Merlot.... maybe knife is safer after this morning's escapade!

merlotgran Fri 23-Jan-15 11:00:25

I'll send you a get well wine, Katek but make sure you drink it after you've cut your pills in half.

durhamjen Fri 23-Jan-15 11:03:15

Make sure you tell the chemist before you order the next lot. They should be concerned about patient safety.

vampirequeen Fri 23-Jan-15 11:35:33

Do the meds come in 5mg form?

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 11:36:51

Merlot....thought about getting dh to do them but then remembered he's on blood thinners! Thanks for the vino:-)!
Jen....good point, will mention it to pharmacist.

I'm still leaking....plaster no 4 coming up.

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 11:47:14

Yes VQ, no 2.5mg tablet.

vampirequeen Fri 23-Jan-15 11:47:47

Do you need to have it looked at? Are you near a chemist so you could get some steristrips to help it close?

gillybob Fri 23-Jan-15 11:51:38

Bloomin' heck I hope my grandma's tablets never need to be cut in half. She will have me there 10 times a day cutting them each and every time she needs one. Either that or I will walk into a blood bath. grin (shouldn't laugh, how horrible am I?)

How awful Katek [genuine sympathy emoticon]

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 11:59:56

Think I may pop in past and get some steri strips as I'm still bleeding after 3 hours. Grrrr!

Grannyknot Fri 23-Jan-15 12:02:18

Ask your doc to lower the dose to 5 mgs! grin (only joking)

flowers finger injuries are so sore.

Ana Fri 23-Jan-15 12:05:46

It's bad that this company is making the pills without a break line. There must be many others who are having to risk life and limb (or at least a finger!) cutting them in half according to the dosage they're on.

Definitely take it up with the pharmacy.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 23-Jan-15 12:07:55

shock Have you put the plaster on very tight? I don't reckon much on steri strips. They come off in my experience. (Garden shears/lavender bushes) hmm

Stick your thumb in the air.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 23-Jan-15 12:08:39

Perhaps not when you're passing cars though. grin

Sorry!

Coolgran65 Fri 23-Jan-15 12:34:28

I had to throw away one dangerous pill cutter. And my current one although safer is inaccurate.

Tegan Fri 23-Jan-15 12:41:11

Phone the chemist straight away and tell them; they will have changed brand [to get the cheapest version]. If you know the brand you were on before they should be able to supply that one for you..if not another chemist may have that brand in stock and could supply it for you. The chemist needs to know, both for patients that are on it now and for future reference.

Nelliemoser Fri 23-Jan-15 13:36:43

Have you kept pressure on it for long enough before putting a plaster on?

I cut my finger very badly once and wrapped it tightly in a thick wadge of kitchen roll and selllotaped that, it was all I could find as I was not at my own house. Plasters don't always provide enough pressure in the right place.
Leave a bit of skin showing at the top if you can, so you can check it not turning blue.

Katek Fri 23-Jan-15 13:49:29

Am now stuck together....turns out it was quite a deep cut, and have dressing on the top. Thumb now looks like cartoon drawing-just need the ouch-y throb lines radiating from it! Bit peeved as I was hoping to start x stitch sampler for our new gc due any day.

I'm taking up the whole issue of pills and deadly instruments with pharmacy next week as it's relief pharmacist today - she was very kind but has no authority.

Mishap Fri 23-Jan-15 14:00:32

Ouch and double ouch! Hope it's better soon.

We have a pill cutter and I hide it well away from the GC.

vampirequeen Fri 23-Jan-15 16:18:39

Sounds sore and awkward but what a brilliant excuse not to do the washing up grin
