Anniversaries are hard Katek and especially so when you're not only feeling your own grief, but also the weight of emotions felt by your daughter and granddaughter.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and messages. We talk about him a lot, there are pictures of him in the house and my DGD and I laugh about all the silly little things he did. We tell her stories about him and this Xmas she was bought a star to name for him. What made everything so very, very much worse - if that's possible - is that they were more or less there when it happened. They were in for afternoon visiting and had just gone to the shop for drinks etc and when they got back to the ward all hell was breaking loose. And that was it.

How very sad for you and your family. Life seems unfair at times.

This is a shocking thing to have happened - and so rare in one so young. And how dreadful that they were there in all the chaos that ensued. How do they get over this?

I know that your love and care will have been and continue to be a rock for them to cling on to.
