I'm allergic to cats.

Oldgreymare Sun 11-Jan-15 15:48:40

Oh dear! Are you now going to sit back and wait for comments smile

Galen Sun 11-Jan-15 15:50:20

Will catty comments be banned or welcomed?
Looking for a new thread as I have now bowed out (relatively graciously I hope) from a rather more contentious one.
Risking stirring - I don't really like cats and I understand they outgrow the fluffy kitten stage.

Lilygran Sun 11-Jan-15 15:55:23

I'm sorry about that, Galen. I really like kittens and cats, fluffy or otherwise. I can't think of many creatures I don't like except for mosquitoes and cockroaches.

Galen Sun 11-Jan-15 15:57:00

Witty, catty comments welcomed!

I've been mew-sing over this because I love cats. Rosie was a beauty from the cat protection league. When I first met DH he hated cats but Rosie and I came as a package. She became his best friend and DH wept buckets when she died from diabetes complications. No more cats though, he said there'd never be another Rosie.

I like cats and kittens, but I became allergic to them in my late thirties after having had a delightful cat (called Flap) and her six kittens. smile

We said the same Coolgran65 when we lost Cleo who was a feral kitten we tamed and loved and had for nearly 20 years. BUT.... we have just adopted two little rescued pusscats and they have brought joy and love with them. New names are Tinka and Belle and they are so funny and so sweet and it feels like home again with purry friends in it.

I am sorry for people who don't like cats - the most elegant and interesting pets you can have though anyone allergic to them is excused! Apparently your blood pressure drops when you stroke your cat, or so I am told!

Galen Sun 11-Jan-15 16:35:00

I must say, soop's Rory is of course an exception

Mishap Sun 11-Jan-15 16:37:07

Answer me this - why do cats always want to sit on the laps of people who don't like them?

Wheniwasyourage Sun 11-Jan-15 16:38:01

I'm allergic to cats too; if I stroke one my hands get itchy and my eczema plays up. However, we have several who consider that they own the garden and that's fine with us, as they should keep the mice and rabbits down, and they don't seem to cause any damage to the flower beds (not that anything much survived the snails/slugs last year - could a cat be trained to eat snails and slugs, do you suppose? hmm )

Tegan Sun 11-Jan-15 16:42:36

A lot of animals look on eye contact as a sign of aggression. So cat lovers will look at a cat and make cooing noises whereas someone who doesn't like them ignores them and the cat immediately thinks 'friend'.....

Tegan Sun 11-Jan-15 16:43:56

....I keep forgetting what to do when confronted by a bear, though; think it's the opposite confused.....[one needs to know such things just in case]

Mishap Sun 11-Jan-15 16:46:29

Cats are akin to bears to me!

ninathenana Sun 11-Jan-15 16:49:11

An interesting question Mishap and one I have often pondered over. Any answer to this question whether read in a book or told to you by someone is unfortunately impossible to prove grin

I do love fluffy kittens, grown cats and big cats especially snow leopards. I'll still talk to you though Galen smile

Galen Sun 11-Jan-15 16:50:03

A lot of bears round you Tegan?

ninathenana Sun 11-Jan-15 16:51:20

Tegan that makes perfect sense.

Lilygran Sun 11-Jan-15 16:52:19

I read/ saw somewhere that when you meet a bear, you should lie down and play dead. Not sure if it would work with a cat. Even less sure it would work with a bear hmm

Mishap Sun 11-Jan-15 16:53:21

Do fluffy kittens believe in god? Do they go to heaven? - they should really as they are so cute (in pictures, NOT on my lap!)

ninathenana Sun 11-Jan-15 16:56:39

There is a video on FB of a lady with her cat doing an agility course, like those you would expect to see a dog doing. Unless it's fake (don't see how) it's amazing.
I would have said it was impossible if I hadn't seen it.

Soutra Sun 11-Jan-15 17:16:31

But puppies on the other hand, are irresistible. . . . grin

Charleygirl Sun 11-Jan-15 17:27:17

Galen are you bored?

pompa Sun 11-Jan-15 17:30:58

I don't find kittens irresistible, but I love adult pussies.

Agus Sun 11-Jan-15 17:31:56

Oooh, those little fat tummies I remember so well with each new Lab we had.
