Is it just me?

Do you always imagine absolutely thousands of people rushing to read your posts? Whereas, in fact, when you stop to think about it, that is no more likely to happen with your posts than with anyone else's. grin

Have I got a ridiculously over-inflated online ego? Or are we all the same?

Genuinely wondering! grin

Grannyknot Wed 07-Jan-15 17:22:06

Drat! I thought that would make a heart! Do how did you do that?

Lona Wed 07-Jan-15 17:22:08

I am just going to kill this thread now, as usual! It's ME that does it!

I used to get fed up when people clearly didn't read the previous posts, but now, guess what, I don't give a monkeys!

grin

I do read nearly all the posts, honest.

It always looks to me as though there are a set of regular people who chat to each other and I assume that for the most part they won't bother to read what I post because my name is newer or they don't like what they have seen of what I've posted in the past. I've had some nice messages through my inbox though and I do appreciate those people for taking the time to make contact.

The other thing is that there are so many interesting discussions to read that the downside is one may not have time to read more than one or two of them. So people may not respond because they haven't seen what you've posted.

Ana Wed 07-Jan-15 17:27:05

And sometimes by the time you've posted, more have appeared which make yours seem at best out of step, and at worst irrelevant! hmm

henetha Wed 07-Jan-15 17:29:56

I now assume that my posts will be mostly ignored. It used to upset me but I've got used to it. I still enjoy reading other's post and now have no expectation of being admitted to the inner circle. It's an age thing, I think. I'm just too old to be interesting.
I shall still stick with Gransnet as most of it is lovely.

Ana Wed 07-Jan-15 17:39:31

I just press Alt and 3 on the numberpad.
(Sorry Grannyknot - missed your previous post!)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 07-Jan-15 17:49:10

Nooooo! I would hate a like button!

soontobe Wed 07-Jan-15 17:50:27

Is there an inner circle?
If there is I am not in it! And I have not spotted it.

Starling Wed 07-Jan-15 17:55:44

jingl I read your last post as "I would like a hate button" - which seemed a bit mean...
henetha I have read lots of your posts! They are not being ignored!
I don't think there really is an inner circle. People often reply to me and I've only been on here about 5 months.
I do sometimes feel like I've killed a thread though...............

rosequartz Wed 07-Jan-15 17:58:32

Hello all of you lovely lot

I always read every post that everyone ever writes but don't always have time to reply! hmm
(I don't always follow all the links though .....)

And I often manage to kill a thread stone dead with my wit!! or whatever other people may call it. grin

loopylou Wed 07-Jan-15 18:01:38

Some of us perhaps have more time free to respond-if I wasn't unemployed (temporarily I hope), I wouldn't have nearly so much time To spend enjoying browsing the threads.

Kiora Wed 07-Jan-15 18:28:24

No I rather think of gransnet as being a comfortable intimate group of nice people of similar age, sharing experiences and offering advice. so I'm under the impression that only a few people read anything I post. I read a good many of the posts. I don't know what goes on in soops kitchen (can't even remember the name sorry) because I simply don't understand it and am too embarrassed to ask. I somtimes have nothing to add to a thread,Sometimes I'm simply not clever enough to join in. Somtimes I'm content to just dip in and read. I have learnt a lot, found out some interesting tips. It's given me food for thought. It's supported me. Ive had a really good snigger/laugh at some posts. Some are simply too long for me to read every reply. I do follow a lot of the links.

Tegan Wed 07-Jan-15 18:28:55

I do agree with 'like' buttons and don't regard them as a test of someones popularity. Sometimes [as with the Paris sad thread] I totally agree with what someone has written, don't want to reply by repeating what they've said and can't just say 'I agree' because the thread has moved on.

Ana Wed 07-Jan-15 18:41:40

I think a 'like' button would put some people off posting at all, especially those who aren't that confident.

annsixty Wed 07-Jan-15 18:51:28

Of course there is an inner circle and I have been on GN long enough to know that I also am not in it. I care not a jot. I post when I feel like it.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 07-Jan-15 18:56:19

I don't think there is an "inner circle". confused just that some people enjoy posting more than others do.

Ana Wed 07-Jan-15 18:57:52

Perhaps there used to be one, but not so much now, I don't think...

I agree with this, from Kiora's post.

Phoenix what have you been up to shock how could I have missed the chance to chortle at your antics the opportunity to sympathise with your misfortunes.

Crafting Wed 07-Jan-15 19:19:08

Sorry that was a reply to Phoenix's post on page 1. I hadn't realised the thread had moved on so much. I must now read through and catch up blush

soontobe Wed 07-Jan-15 19:20:33

I worked out a while ago, that anywhere there is an inner circle, or a clique or whatever, they are the ones in a minority group.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 07-Jan-15 19:20:46

Ana I agree.

Ariadne Wed 07-Jan-15 19:24:07

I read lots of posts, but think I only join in when I find something interesting, or fun. (I do appreciate the support I get when I have been upset, though!)

harrigran Wed 07-Jan-15 19:24:31

No I do not imagine people reading my posts, I am fairly invisible in real life so it does not bother me.
