DD spent most of her pregnancies in either SiL's sweat shirts or tops she bought on ebay. She bought a size larger jeans which she later kindly passed on to me

I'm not so sure about your comment NTO, I seem to remember having to suffer a lot of moaning during the pregnancy.

Oooh, Pompa, you have a point there but just be glad you take part in the enjoyable first bit and don't have to get too involved in the rest of it. Until the little dear arrives, of course!

I had Mothercare maternity jeans with an elasticated panel. And some of the dungarees.

Oh, I practically lived in my maternity jeans! I think they were the only item of proper maternity wear I ever bought...

I quite like some of the maternity fashions these days, the dresses are lovely, nicely shaped to accommodate the bump, just like the T-shirts and other tops.
The fashion for wearing short tops and low slung trousers with the bare belly protruding is something I haven't seen for some years now - it was quite the thing back in the nineties and early noughties I think, but my experience is that women tend to cover up a bit more these days.
The fashion I really disliked was the maternity dungarees in the eighties
And yes, I thought the smock tops and loose fitting clothes of our day were rather pretty - and very comfortable too! But, funny thing is, I can't for the life of me remember what we wore with those smock tops - almost certainly trousers of some description, but I simply don't remember having any maternity trousers .

It wouldn't have done on me. I had one of those thick black lines from belly button down when I was pregnant. It appeared when I was expecting DD1 and didn't fade till she was about 10!

I`d rather see expectant mums in looser fitting things than going around with their bare tums sticking right out on display. Not because it`s to be ashamed of, it just doesn`t look nice.

Years ago I was sewing a maternity smock at work in my lunch break [they were fashionable to wear with loon pants]. My boss saw what I was doing and we joked about me'being pregnant'. Next thing I knew I'd been moved to a desk job [I was a filing clerk and on my feet most of the day]. So embarrassing to have to explain that I thought HE was joking about it. [back filing the next day] .

Smocks were really pretty. And proper maternity dresses. Much better than the show-off-the-bulging-belly stuff they wear these days.

One of my two ex DILs was one of those lucky people who hardly ''showed'' at all during both her pregnancies.This was maybe due to her build which is tall and angular.
She only got a hint of a bump during the last two months and bought about three elastic waisted skirts in a size bigger.They were not expensive and were easily discarded afterwards.
Thank goodness we no longer have those smocks and tent like dresses we wore.

There are numerous online maternity shops, which can solve your need. First and the foremost thing you have to keep in mind is that, first you do survey and from where you find your requirement, you can send your order.

Funnily enough my DD and I were discussing the 'larger size vs maternity clothes' issue today. She said, and I totally agree, that she cannot understand why people buy larger sizes instead of properly designed maternity wear.
She hasn't gained any weight anywhere apart from her bump, which is now rather large as she is nearly 8 months. At this advanced stage of pregnancy, 'larger' clothes would need to be at least two whole sizes larger than normal to accommodate her bump - and then they would be far too big across the shoulders and around the bust! When it comes to dresses and skirts, the bump would raise the hemline considerably at the front, giving an uneven appearance.
What is the point in buying clothes that are so much larger than you would normally wear? Post pregnancy they would be just as redundant as maternity clothes, so surely it's more sensible to buy things that actually fit properly and are comfortable to wear. Plus, it is far easier to sell used maternity clothes online than regular fitting clothes.

I did wonder why you wanted a nice warm jumper with summer approaching!

Mishap not sure how far you are away, but they have a (not very large) outlet store at Newport and a shop in Monmouth.
