Taken the decs down yet?

Mine will come down on Glorious Monday, when college starts again! lol. Plus my sister is coming next Sunday for tea and her pressie so tree has to be up for that.

I'm still recovering from stopping smoking so another week of rest and recuperation for me before starting to sort out the whole of the new house (once DS is back out from under my feet) with painting, decorating and styling. I am really looking forward to it all, bring it on! When I'm fully better.

NO, I'm not taking them down yet. Took long enough to drag them out and put them up, they can stay there til whenever I can be bothered to take them down again. If people didn't go putting them up on 1 December they wouldn't look so bedraggled and annoying. We've only just got Christmas over with. People go on and on about Christmas for like EVER and no sooner has the last stuffing ball been popped in their mouth than they're tearing the Christmas cards down and stripping the tree of its baubles. Have a little respect for 12th night and all that.

We never put the decorations up until school was finished for DH and me as well as the DC. As a result, we don't take them down until 6th January either or they are hardly up. We have succumbed to an artificial tree now, so needle drop is no longer a problem, but I miss the smell of a real tree.

I love Christmas and my many decorations, which take me hours to put up the week before, and I hate how bare the house looks when they come down (as late as possible on 6 January for me). Someone mentioned on GN last year that they always left some decorations up till 2 February (Candlemas) and that was my excuse to keep a selected few in place all year round . A couple of wreaths and a string of lights. Our house is a Victorian terrace and seems to suit Christmas.

I took them down today - I really don`t know why normally do it on New Year`s Day - so we are back to normal - and I do love Christmas

No, I like Christmas to last for as long as possible. I never take down my decorations until tweveth night. Then the house looks really empty. It drives DH mad, he's a bit of a bah humbug!

Decorations will come down just before our trip to France on 5 January.

I am an unreconstructed Christmasphile. I love decorating the house and I like to have the decorations around for a fortnight before taking them down again.

Our decorations (called trimmings in Norfolk) went up on the 20th. DH says they shouldn't have appeared until Christmas Eve, especially the tree. I insist they stay 'til 6th although he'd like them down on Boxing Day - he got bah humbug mints in his stocking. We usually have a few friends round for lunch on the 5th and take the tree apart on the 6th.

I'm itching to take them down to clean but can't let myself until 12th night. Which will win...tradition or OCD

Ours didn't go up until 15th which is DS1s birthday we have always done it for his party when he was a child and have kept the tradition on,we will take them down on 12 th night,Felice I seem to remember that taking down on the 2nd of February was for the decorations to be used on Shrove Tuesday to cook the pancakes over, I maybe wrong I'm sure someone will correct me if I am incorrect,but I think that's what I remember.

I've just taken mine down except for the cards, which I will do tomorrow. I must admit I usually wait until NY day, but everyone has been and no one else will be coming, so why wait?

Sorry Teatime- didn't mean to be snarky- but I personally like decorations to go up as late as poss, and then keep the tradition of 12th day. Each to their own. I am surrounded by friends on FB and another (expat) Forum, complaining bitterly about visitors, family, decorations, etc, etc, etc,- and it just was the last straw. Of course I am tired- due to distance, I have family coming to stay for 10+ days, and it is tiring- but I would not dream of complaining- and love to have them. Looking forward to a good rest, of course- but wouldn't have it any other way. Grandkids loved the decorations and our real Christmas tree with candles on- and it is worth the effort x 1 million +.

Ours went up on the 14th and will come down at the weekend. Love to see them up for Christmas but 2 weeks is long enough.

Ours are still up. If we take them down now there will only be a lot of dusting to do. I like to have them down by New Years Day though - a good clean start to 2015. Like others, I think it's best not to put them up too soon.

Just finished taking the decorations down because that's what I wanted to do.

Surely there isn't a rule and we just do what suits us as individuals.

I don't think anyone was complaining about decorating the house and seeing their family over Christmas, just breathing a sigh of relief now that all is (almost) back to normal.

Decoration and tree go up on the weekend before Christmas Day, or the previous week end if Chritmas day is at the beginning of the week.

My birthday is at the beginning of January, so they come down the day before that. To make way for all the cards and bouquets of flowers that I get! In my dreams! x

Sorry, but why bother int he first place, if that is how you feel? How decs only came out on the 22nd of December- I think that is the key. If you decorate in mid November... DD1 and sil and grandchildren going home tomorrow, and DD2 on New Years Day- the decs can stay till the New Year.

Its all down except the tree and the wreath on the door and that's coming down n 1st Jan. I must say I feel a bit lighter for doing all that. The fridge has been cleared of all bits and bobs leftover and now I shall set about the wardrobes ready to fill up the charity bags that will soon arrive. I'm etchy and restless as there is no golf because eof the snow so its cleaning cleaning cleaning for me!!! yes I know I'm a pain .

We only have a large tree this year since i was in hospital just before Christmas and DH had to do all the preparations himself

I would like to remove the tree now but am making myself wait until New Year's Day.

Not yet! 18 people here for the day today and the children would be disappointed! Ours come down on 6th of Jan!

I start removing bits and bobs from New Years Day onwards but I always leave the stable and all its residents until 12th Night, that's when the 'Three Wise Men are due. At the moment they are waiting patiently - stage left - to make their grand entrance.

Tree and decorations only went up on 18th so coming down before midnight on 12th night .

Making one's own traditions is fun.
