Taken the decs down yet?

We never put the decorations up until school was finished for DH and me as well as the DC. As a result, we don't take them down until 6th January either or they are hardly up. We have succumbed to an artificial tree now, so needle drop is no longer a problem, but I miss the smell of a real tree.

NO, I'm not taking them down yet. Took long enough to drag them out and put them up, they can stay there til whenever I can be bothered to take them down again. If people didn't go putting them up on 1 December they wouldn't look so bedraggled and annoying. We've only just got Christmas over with. People go on and on about Christmas for like EVER and no sooner has the last stuffing ball been popped in their mouth than they're tearing the Christmas cards down and stripping the tree of its baubles. Have a little respect for 12th night and all that.

Mine will come down on Glorious Monday, when college starts again! lol. Plus my sister is coming next Sunday for tea and her pressie so tree has to be up for that.

I'm still recovering from stopping smoking so another week of rest and recuperation for me before starting to sort out the whole of the new house (once DS is back out from under my feet) with painting, decorating and styling. I am really looking forward to it all, bring it on! When I'm fully better.

I have just the cards and a 9-foot Christmas tree which is in one of those stands that you fill with water so it's still green and no needles are falling. Having not been well for the last few days, I have no desire to struggle with undressing it, but I will change the doorbell chime back to "ding-dong" from the quick blast of Jingle Bells that it is currently set to. That will disappoint the grandchildren, but it's been driving me insane.

I always take mine down on New Years eve so that I can clean the room to welcome in the New Year.

No, I love the Christmas decorations and ours will stay in place until 6 January when they'll be careful packed away, ready for their appearance next year.

Still munching the mince pies here. How can We do that without the decs up?!

Mine have been up since 1st December and will stay firmly in place until 12th night, love all the colour and sparkle.

Mine went up on 18 Dec and came down today.
It also helps to separate the Christmas festivities from the birthday of our dgs who is 4 today.

I love Christmas decorations and usually put mine up the first weekend in December and they don't come down till 12th night (except for the thing I forget to put away) It's always something different every year. Last year we were sitting at the dinner table in February when DH said "Do you realise we have 2 gold bells hanging on the ceiling lamp"

12th night at our house

Twelfth night always and I prefer to dress the tree on Christmas Eve but we were away. The lovely house we stayed in had two trees up ,one an enormous one and the other In front of the hearth which we had to move so FC could come down the chimney. I transported an artificial tree from home to the holiday house in case they didn't have one and now have a spare.

Alas, no longer Crafting. Switched off and stored away until next year

Decs up as close to 24th December as I can leave it and down on 3 Jan as 4th is DHs birthday and he likes a bit of space for his cards! Would be driving me bonkers if they had been up since early December. I prefer to be traditional and stick to 12 days!

Oh not till 12th night-6th January when every bit of holly, ivy, fir and mistletoe MUST leave the house and the deccies be stored away Any earlier, or worse still, later, and my Irish grandmother wil come back to haunt me! The number of superstitions she has bequeathed me is amazing. Stirring the Christmas pudding you have to wish. You also wish when you eat the first mince pie of the year. But leaving your deccies up too late brings gloom and misery!

Glad to hear many put up decorations up as late as poss and keep till 12th day- and I am a furiner.

Planned to take everything down and give the house a good clean, but DD has been poorly and is still here - when I told her what I planned she was horrified so they'll stay up for another day or two and I'll clean around them.

why not just wait for a couple of days loopylou-what difference would it make- and they may feel very unwelcome if you clean around them.

granjura, DD would have them up 365 days of the year, bless her.
It's just that I'm feeling restless, been for walk, meal prepared, fed up with TV etc...... would hate to think decorations feel unwanted !

Everything came down this morning, had a good clean and dust and now we're back to normal - whatever that may be. Always feel that it puts the old year behind us and we can start afresh in the new year.
NY Day always feels like a Sunday, don't know why, so we're having a roast for tea and then we'll veg in front of the television and watch mindless things that we recorded over Christmas.

They are like the tart after the party. We're done!

The wind down starts today. DS and family return home this evening. Today will be spent packing, retrieving toys and presents from under every item of furniture we own, clothing recovered from the utility room. They are taking us out to the local Italian for lunch to say thank you for our hospitality.

Once they have gone, DH and I will relax among the detritus this evening and tomorrow the clean and tidy will start. By the time we go to France on Monday evening, everything will be back to normal. The trees will have been taken to the tip and I am crossing fingers that the decorations will be back in the loft.

Family visiting today so I've left mine up. I'll put everything away when they have gone.
For a few days after the tree etc. is put away my house looks really empty!

rosiedee we are much like you all down now, cleaned through and we start the New Year afresh- popping into town for some fresh flowers now.
