who can't stand Bailey's? tchconfused

Deedaa Sat 20-Dec-14 20:55:50

I can't bear Baileys because I loathe the whole idea of mixing cream with alcohol. I do like Ferrero Rocher and marzipan though. And I do like to finish a meal with an espresso and a glass of Amaretto.

Well, no Baileys, Ferrero Rocher, nuts of any kind (Mr Pickle excluded) whiskey, advocaat, mince pies, marzipan and cake.
But send any unwanted olives, truffles and sourdough, as we have a good home waiting for them.
And chutney....

I love Baileys but can't regard it as alcoholic and can just drink it by the pint [same with Tia Maria]. And I miss having it with a cigarette, so I just tend to avoid it these days.

Thirty years ago people would insist on pouring me a glass of wine even when I said "no thanks; it's wasted on me" (I just didn't like it). Nowadays I don't find that's the case. People are much more accepting if you don't want alcoholic drinks.

BTW, I actually like wine now, but it doesn't like me (gives me headaches).

I must say apart from the very occasional small glass of wine or even rarer G&T I prefer a long drink like grapefruit juice and soda. More than one glass of wine and my knees go wobbly!

I don't do drinks, really. I only drink black coffee and water. Wine is especially awful, pure acid. People won't accept that I don't want alcohol, thankyou, I don't like the taste and have no desire to get drunk.

I love Baileys and am so disappointed that Morrisons have not had their litre bottles for £9 this year. There are few drinks I dislike except perhaps some rather perculier foreign ones - a Chinese liquor comes to mind !! The chocs I prefer are the high percentage ones but really anything will do !
I am very easy to please !!

"White wine is cold too crun and much nicer than lager!!"

The problem I have with short drinks is that I tend to consume them in the same quantities as long ones. I like something that quenches thirst.

If anyone likes Baileys on Christmas Day they can bring their own tchgrin

henetha Fri 19-Dec-14 19:22:35

I can just about manage one thimble-full of Baileys before throwing up,
At first the taste is pleasant, followed very quicky by overwhelming sickly sweetness.
But maybe it's better with ice etc.... I don't think I will bother to find out though.
Chocolates.... any chocolates..... Yey! grin

Still reeling from just following this thread. I stopped drinking wine 9wks. ago. The older I'm becoming, the lower my tolerance to alcohol seems to be the norm. I cant put any spirits over my laughing gear. I do enjoy a few bottles of a branded cider. Cold when it's summer.

Ana Fri 19-Dec-14 18:16:58

That's three times more than the average 750 ml bottle of wine!

Ana Fri 19-Dec-14 18:14:59

A 700 ml bottle of Baileys contains 1,846 calories!!! tchshock

harrigran Fri 19-Dec-14 18:10:07

Bailey's, yuck absolutely revolting. I think it was created to attract young people who like sweet drinks. Apart from the taste it must be full of calories.

crun Fri 19-Dec-14 18:06:33

I'm not much bothered about spirits of any kind really, wine is ok, but I wouldn't bother with it. If I drink booze I'll usually go for lager just because it's cold.

Ana Fri 19-Dec-14 18:02:16

I agree, number - the centres all have the same truffly texture and taste SO BLAND!!!

numberplease Fri 19-Dec-14 17:56:22

I`m still waiting for the Black Magic people to come to their senses and put the Black Magic Box back to how it used to be, complete with ALL original centres. PLEASE!!!

My Mum always used to arrive with chocs, even though she must have known they give me migraine - I had certainly mentioned it often enough. I gave up saying about it and would just say thank you.

GillT57 Fri 19-Dec-14 13:44:45

Nice G & T or glass of fine red for me. Love chocolate brazils, chocolate ginger, love marzipan.

loopylou Fri 19-Dec-14 11:16:25

Ana! After a pint of Baileys I imagine you'd be beyond worrying about units! More like heading for a cholesterol overload and a heart attack!

POGS Fri 19-Dec-14 10:58:36

Lovely with 50/50 mix with Tia Maria to stop it being so sweet, with ice.

If you get a bottle as a Xmas gift Kitty send it to this south Leics GN poster tchsmile

Ana Fri 19-Dec-14 10:43:59

alex57 there are around 9.5 units in a pint of Baileys!! tchshock

No wonder you were put off it for life...

glammanana Fri 19-Dec-14 10:42:04

I always looked forward to my box of Black Magic which I received on special occasions,I was so upset a couple of years ago when there were no coffee creams in the selection I felt very badly done to.tchsad

Culag Fri 19-Dec-14 10:38:39

I think it sounds horrible, so have never tasted it. But then I don't particularly like chocolate either shock
