Its the little things.............. ....

Certainly, it's the little things that often please most. Like the lady that helped me with my tray in John Lewis on Wednesday.

I don't want to spoil it for you but dogs can often sense underlying problems. Just something to think about .
Mine and mum kept a polite distance until the night dad died when the dog sat with his head in her lap looking soulfully at her.

Oh no! Panicking now. I was just so pleased that I must have looked approachable to him. Mind you I never met an animal I didn't like and maybe that transmits? Other wee things are unexpected chats/banter when out shopping or in queues

I love spur of the moment chats with people if I am waiting for something,it makes for brightening your day I think and I always think maybe this person is on their own all day and may not speak to anyone else so always engage in conversation.

Don't worry, Jane10. We went to a Steeleye Span concert two years ago and sat in two of the seats reserved for the blind or partially sighted as DH has no peripheral vision. The woman sitting next to me had a guide dog and as soon as she removed his harness he tried to climb on my lap!!

He spent the whole evening resting his head on my knee and I'm still here

Like a hubby who quietly tucked a slanket around me when I fell asleep watching the England match this afternoon..

I read the God of Small Things years ago, loved the book and the title has stayed with me. At the risk of going all Pollyanna again, it's the random acts of kindness, and chatting to others when out walking, or in the supermarket. A positive approach to others is almost always a good thing

Walking up a very steep hill to school with two small GS's, when a very kind lady stopped her very large black car beside us, leaped out and shouted, "jump in boys I'll take you the rest of the way". The rain was pouring, and the boys were very wet and very thankful for the ride. It turned out that the kind lady was a friend of my DD, and had called to pick up the boys but missed us.

Last night my DD (who lives many miles away) sang in a concert with her choir and was the soloist in the Pie Jesu in the Rutter Requiem. We were very sad that neither of us was well enough to travel up to hear her.

This morning there was an unexpected message in my inbox from one of the basses (who I do not know at all, but who went to the same school as my OH many many moons ago) and it went thus:

"Your daughter sang beautifully in her solo in Rutter's Requiem tonight. It was a privilege to hear it. Be very proud!"

It nearly reduced me to tears - what a very kind thought.

That's lovely and very thoughtful Mishap.

DH's patients are often well past recognising what he does for them but when a harrassed son or daughter takes the time to ring to thank him, I well up!

I witnessed one happening to someone else at GD3's birthday party on Sunday. Her other GM (Nana) had made and decorated a beautiful birthday cake which she dropped off the night before. Then she arrived late to the party as she had been at work, was still in her work clothes and looked tired and worn out. A bit later she was standing in the kitchen on her own about to get a coffee, when GD3 went up to her Nana and stood grinning, then put her arms up, her Nana picked her up and they shared a long hug. It was very sweet as GD has always been very obvious that she favours her grandfather (the Nana's DH).

It's assort of take care of the pennies thing isn't it! If we all do small acts of kindness regardless of who that person is receiving it we make the world a better place...well I comfort myself by thinking so.

Same here Penstemmon, or at least, hopefully, we can't be making the world a worse place

Maybe we should have a GN random acts of kindness day. Or even random acts of daftness - laughter is a powerful tonic
