Happy good morning greetings to all our Kitcheners* aka ^you lot...and that includes Galen because "she cares" and that matters.

MacSporran is hoping that the telephone engineer will visit and wave a magic wand that will fix our out of order, for at least two weeks, telephone. Galen are you listening. Guess what! He has just popped his head round the door (the rest of him stayed in the passage way) to tell me..."I'm going across the road to tidy up the overgrown ground at the base of the telephone pole..." I spluttered a response. He added..."otherwise, the engineer, should he visit, won't be able to prop his ladder safely against the pole..." tchshock And off he goes, telling Rory to remain safely indoors.

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 12:06:46

...what's more terrifying is...he's carrying a ladder.

kitty you have every reason to be sorely miffed at the behaviour of your selfish visitor. I trust that, in future, you make it clear that you will not entertain the dog. Why couldn't it have been given a rug and bone to chew in the back of the car? Some folk are totally lacking in grey matter.

Crafting The sun is shining, the frost has disappeared and it really is a gorgeous day in bonnie Kintyre. Our family in England have had deep snow. They are amazed when I tell them that we are free from the white stuff. The sea has a gentle swell. The ferry to Islay looks perfect with the sun shining on the hull.

Lona such welcome good news regarding your son's improved eyesight. It is special to know that your spirits are on a well-deserved high. [tchwine] [tchcupcake] Bravo!

Galen Tue 30-Dec-14 12:08:06

MEN! Daft b****ers!

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 12:09:04

Galen Well, I'm relieved that it won't be the pole at the roadside after all. The pole that is to get his attention is in our garden. Phew! Sometimes...

Galen Tue 30-Dec-14 12:10:17

Quite!

We went to the theatre last night to see A Christmas Carol; veryenjoyable it was too. But when I came to take my earrings off in the early hours of the morning [I'd been watching a couple more episodes of Game of Thrones when I got back] I was only wearing one. I've never lost an earring before and this pair had travelled 2,500 miles round America with me in September without losing themselves so I was quite put out by it. Having turned the house upside down [I'd changed into a woolly sweater when I got home and decided the earring had slipped off when I was changing] I decided I must have lost it at the theatre. So I was quite delighted this morning to walk into the kitchen and find it lying on the kitchen floor [I had retraced every step I'd taken when I got home as well]. Can't begin to say how chuffed I am to find it.

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 13:45:05

Happy ending, Tegan You were meant to find it before it. grin

MacS has cleared the scrub at the base of the telegraph pole. The ladder was being put away (not climbed) so I'm feeling much relieved.

A parcel has arrived at long last for MacS. My son arranged for it to be posted on 19th December. The parcel contained a special edition bottle of Jura malt. We live a mere 18 miles away from the island on which the distillery is located. Son arranged gift that was evidently shipped from Falmouth in Cornwall. It was then transported from there to here... a very long diversion. MacS has a smile on his face. He'll open the bottle to drink a toast to everyone for the coming new year.

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 13:46:05

...meant to add - before it was swept away. Finger trigger-happy.

loopylou Tue 30-Dec-14 13:55:52

Hope Jura malt travels well soop!
Just finished making Salted Caramel Chocolate Torte for New Years Eve supper party, so doubled up and made one for all GNs in Soop's kitchen.....enjoy!

Gagagran Tue 30-Dec-14 14:16:27

Oh that sounds rather yummy loopylou - is it difficult to make? I have rather a partiality for caramel.

Just found out that I've won the auction on e-bay for a wicker cat basket! The cat lady social worker is coming on 6 January to interview us to ensure that we are suitable parents for one (or maybe two) of their rescued cats. I still have my wicker cat bed so I need to get it out of the garage and find a nice soft blanket for it. I shall be very upset if we do not make the grade!

loopylou Tue 30-Dec-14 14:38:52

Very easy to make Gagagran, and just as easy to eat!
It's a Good Food recipe, foolproof!
Good luck with your new feline friend(s), we always had rescue cats and dogs, so lovely and rewarding to give an unwanted animal a good home.

Lona Tue 30-Dec-14 14:50:52

Gaga I'm sure they will be delighted to present you with at least one puss! Good luck anyway!

I've just come back in time for some of that yummy sounding torte with a hot cup of coffee. Thanks loopy smile

I'm feeling pleased because I've made an appointment with another new hairdresser! I look like a scarecrow at the moment as I've been hanging on as long as possible.
The very nice receptionist assured me that they will look after me and listen to what I want, which will make a nice change!

numberplease Tue 30-Dec-14 16:22:24

Good luck with your new hairdresser Lona, I quite often find myself intimidated by hairdressers, especially when they ask how I want my hair doing. I know how I want it, but am hopeless at explaining it, so keep ending up with something totally unlike what I`d envisaged.
And no, the light still hasn`t dawned. How the HECK can 4 boxes of 6 light bulbs just disappear?
Kitty, you were lucky the dog wasn`t incontinent. A friend came for the evening with her husband, and for a change they brought along their rather cranky and snarly Chihuahua, which proceeded to wee on my living room carpet! She was very apologetic, and cleaned up the mess, but it still wasn`t very nice.
Soop, I hope you now have a working land line, it`s about time, and keep MacS off that ladder!

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 16:25:08

Lona Did you mention to the nice receptionist that you are a Kitchener? It helps no end to put people on their very best behaviour. ;) X

Gaga It's a very good sign that you have won the cat basket. How could anyone not realise that you are the essence of a special, gold star, adoptive parent to a pussy cat in need. By gum...if you are not selected, I shall make an enormous fuss. Better they be warned . I am convinced that, very soon after the 6th of January, you will have a furry friend who will so enjoy the cat cosy basket in your loving home.

loopylou If you insist I shall help myself to a un-lady-like slab of your delicious torte. Someone needs to sample it in advance. I'm ready with my plate! You lot must form a queue. tchgrin

Galen...MacS was busying himself outside, when a call from the telephone engineer was diverted to my cell phone. The nice chappie said...sorry for the delay. The fault (at the local exchange) has been attended to. I shall remove the divert line and phone you in two minutes. He did so. We were back in action. I went to the door and yelled called nicely to MacS to come on indoors. He seemed almost put out that the chappie hadn't needed to climb the pole after all. Well, as he said, it does look so much tidier...tchwink

Another 29 messages and we shall all move in a gentile manner to the new kitchen. I wish it to remain Soop's Kitcheners I've no idea how many kitchens we've gathered in but perhaps we could add the word Special next time. Do you agree? Soop's Special Kitcheners sounds so right. After which, we could add a number. I do not like it when our Granspals get lost and lonely. Whomsoever (posh!) posts the 999th message may open our Soop's Special Kitcheners and pour the bubbly for those of us who are need of a new year treat.

Lona Tue 30-Dec-14 16:36:28

That'll larn him soop, glad you are 'switched on again!

Gaga perhaps you should tell them that you are a Kitchener too, they wouldn't dare go against soop! grin

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 16:41:29

number in the loft, perhaps? Or in the garage or garden shed? You must tell us when they come to light. tchconfused

loopylou Tue 30-Dec-14 16:43:33

Awaiting BT engineer tomorrow, had enough of no phone or very crackly line for past 3 weeks, tried everything BT suggested so now need to fork out for visit....... Neighbour said to 'water the telegraph pole', don't think he was joking (asked DH nicely to do!), must be joking?

Amazing achievement soops, having such a wonderful refuge for Kitcheners, so glad I found you all tchsmile
flowers to you all!

soop Tue 30-Dec-14 16:44:10

I'm such a fierce wee thing...but not very often...

Gagagran Tue 30-Dec-14 16:48:16

I'm going to make a badge with a picture of Lord Kitchener on it and wear it when the cat social worker lady comes. If she aske what it's about -I shall refer her to soop!
