In 1917 on the day of my father's birth, my grandfather attended a sale at the Oak House WestBromwich. He purchased for the grand sum of 10shillings a longcase clock which was the pride of his life until ha died in 1954. My gran hated it so it got shoved in the garden shed until I bought a 4 bedroomed house in 1972 when I was presented with the clock.
It remained perfectly working until when in 2002 my DH was told he had terminal cancer, upon which it stopped. I had it cleaned and overhauled and it has kept perfect time until 3/52 ago when it stopped.
This time it's going to cost me £600-£700 to have it cleaned etched, but I'm promised after this thorough overhaul it should go for a further 25-30 years. I was also told its now worth £4-5000.
Not a bad return for a 10 shilling clock that was brought home on a wheelbarrow.
I feel slightly apprehensive about it stopping however.
