Farewell Dear Friend

dorset, my heart goes out to you, I have had the same experience - and it is the lack of phone calls and chats that one misses so much.

I know Deal and area very well. For 35 years I had close relatives living there that we visited regularly. It is a lovely place for a restful and calming holiday. I haven't been there now for nearly 10 years, not since my last relative died and DH and I still really miss our visits there, but it is so far from where we now live.

I have had lots of bereavements over the last 18 months all family so I can understand your grief. The early days are the worst. I somtimes think friends know us more intimatly than our family. Friends are the ones that hear all our woes and who we confide in about our family troubles. Loosing a very dear friend must be especially hard. I hope that you can rest and recuperate on your holiday. Fingers crossed you have good weather. Life's hard at times. I send you my condolences.

Such sad news Dorset good friends are special, and perhaps when you have recovered a little from the shock, you will be able to recall some of the happy times you had. Try to go to the Wake if there is one, and other people who loved your friends will be able to share memories with you.

I have had the same experience - better to have had and lost than never to have had at all.

It does come as such a shock to lose a friend,my friend died a year ago last week aged 55 after a short illness,I think of her every day and now realise how much we actually shared.Thinking of you Dorset at this sad time x

dorset I am so sorry - what a very sad time for you. My dearest friend died some years ago at a very early age having 'overlooked' a breast lump for some time- its very hard to come to terms with. I hope the day of the funeral is not too hard for you.

You have all my sympathy. Friends are very precious and this must have been a shock for you. I hope you will soon be able to just remember the good times. Stay strong for the funeral - we will all be behind you.

from me too. I can't imagine how painful that must be. We can sometimes talk to our friends when we can't talk to our family so I'm sure you will miss her dreadfully!

dorsetpennt I know I would feel bereft if any of my close friends were to die before me, so you have my deepest sympathies. Although I understand why you might be dreading the funeral I find that the freedom to talk about the deceased and have a good weep is quite healing. Although of course grief is not neatly packaged and lingers and changes with the passing of time.

dorset I'm sorry to hear about your dear friend and understand why you feel like that, as I occasionally imagine losing my closest friend and I would feel the same. If her funeral is upsetting, so be it - have a bloody good cry. There will be others there doing the same. Afterwards, if you're going to join her family and other friends, you'll be able to share some lovely memories with each other. One thing's for sure - you'll have those reminders of what it's like to have a good friend who you have really cared about.

I do send you my heartfelt sympathy in losing your precious friend, and understand how you feel. It is now five years ago since my dearest friend died and I stilll miss her terribly. We had been friends since we were 17.
Other friends are lovely, but she was the one I could really talk to.
When family members die it is terrible, of course, but it is not always appreciated how much the loss of a close friend can hurt too.
I'm sure you will find some comfort in going to Deal with your son and family, and I wish you all the very best for the future. We never forget those we love and lose, but we do learn in time to live alongside the pain.
