I have been a member of GN now for about 2 years and I am sure that there was a lot more chat went on then. It seems much quieter now, am I right?

i like that phrase 'vent one's spleen' ... what an imagegrin

Ana Wed 17-Sept-14 18:43:09

Yes, it seems to be acceptable to vent one's spleen on a Politics thread! hmm

Elegran Wed 17-Sept-14 18:36:19

I dunno, plenty of spice on the referendum threads, but most of it is fenugreek (bitter)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Sept-14 18:33:46

Public? Or HQ? hmm

Ana Wed 17-Sept-14 18:30:23

This is now the new, non-spicy version of GN, jingl...due to public demand I expect!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 17-Sept-14 18:18:19

This is exactly the kind of thread that makes GN so sodding boring these days! hmm

As for "we don't want bitches on Gransnet" (referring to Andy I know) well, I don't know... Might spice things up a bit.

How do you know Bentley hasn't got any GC, Tricia? confused

numberplease Wed 17-Sept-14 16:45:00

Not really, it`s for GranDMAS as well as GranDADS, they both start with Gran.

TriciaF Wed 17-Sept-14 16:27:31

I agree Rubylady, it would be good to have a few more Grand-dads on here (but please, Ana, not Bentley, not at all mysterious. He hasn't any grandchildren yet anyway.)
But then wouldn't the name of the website have to be changed?

Atqui Wed 17-Sept-14 16:02:31

Welcome back * Ariadne * and Granny A. wondered where you were.

HollyDaze Wed 17-Sept-14 15:26:03

Good post rubylady

I'd rather have a good mix of male and female in any situation, it brings different perspectives to what people talk and laugh about.

Me too and for the reasons you have given (I have sometimes wondered if all the bickering has scared off the men that have joined!).

I have found that on forums, men argue just as much as women but it tends to blow over much quicker and it tends not to get personal.

kittylester Wed 17-Sept-14 06:20:32

Hi, GA, I wondered whether you were ok - good to hear from you! smile

rubylady Tue 16-Sept-14 23:55:47

grumppa I don't think rosearered meant it like that. It's just that in any situation where it is mostly women it can get quite bitchy. Men added to the mix dissolves that and makes the situation more enjoyable as a whole. I used to work as a nurse and the atmosphere at times was terrible, being mostly women. They would try to outdo each other, belittle each other, make the younger ones lives a misery. Only a handful of male nurses but on the wards where they were the atmosphere was different, more likable workplace altogether. Before nursing I worked in an office of four women in an engineering firm, all men on shop floor and where the bosses were men too. Totally different. Lots of jokes, fooling around, laughter (the Sales Manager was a scouse), but the work still got done. I'd rather have a good mix of male and female in any situation, it brings different perspectives to what people talk and laugh about.

More would be nice, for balance, rosesarered? Is that all we're good for, just tokens, and not for the je ne sais quoi that we bring to the discussions?

grannyactivist Tue 16-Sept-14 23:10:59

I've had a very busy summer with grandchildren and several other people staying and then ended the summer with a fortnight's holiday in Greece - so not had much free time to catch up or chat recently, but now that autumn is creeping up I hope I shall have a little more time to spare for Gransnet. smile

Ana Tue 16-Sept-14 22:18:52

Quite.

Frank was good fun, until he made a couple of unfortunate posts and was hounded (!) off GN. Some people never 'got' him though...

TerriBull Tue 16-Sept-14 21:55:24

No I didn't think he was Ana, good cos we don't want bitches on gransnet grin

Galen Tue 16-Sept-14 21:48:51

grin
Well if you tire of him, he'll get a good home here!

Ana Tue 16-Sept-14 21:48:49

Andie was not a bitch, TerriBull.

Ariadne Tue 16-Sept-14 21:45:29

Well, I am now safely back home and reunited with my iPad which I left on the kitchen table down here. Can I say that it is good to be back on GN! I am not logged in on my iPhone, couldn't remember my password, of course, and didn't get round to resetting it.

I have been here since 2011 - can't remember when, exactly, and I think that there have always been quiet times, swiftly followed by heated debates and lots of laughter. And the clique theory raises its head from time to time, but I really don't think there is much substance to it - just that, perhaps, some people's whims and foibles, likes and dislikes have become part of the scenery to those who have been here a while.

Anyway - I have missed you all! And yes, Galen it's good to meet someone in the real world. And yes, he is quite lovely! Mostly...

TerriBull Tue 16-Sept-14 21:38:34

Unless Andie's a bitch, could be I suppose.

TerriBull Tue 16-Sept-14 21:37:03

Me too, with Frank you also got Andie so that made 2 males.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 16-Sept-14 21:33:18

And me.

Greenfinch Tue 16-Sept-14 21:22:29

Me too !

numberplease Tue 16-Sept-14 21:17:23

I still rather miss Frank........
