As I don't have a lot of people to celebrate my birth day with,
I've suddenly take a decision!smile

I've booked an 18 day cruise on the Queen Elizabeth from Venice to Southampton that takes in my birthday .

Blimey. He may not be slim, impeccably dressed or Russian but DH does all that!

OK. Maybe not the canapes grin

Galen Mon 25-Aug-14 20:37:43

Blone? Blond!

Galen Mon 25-Aug-14 20:37:25

Tall slim impeccably dressed blone attractive Russian and female!
Theoretically anything you want them to. Brought my breakfast in my suite and laid the table. Checked I had enough tonic water, lemon slices, vodka, fresh flowers fruit, canapés and would arrange for anything I wanted

What was your last butler like? More to the point what did he do for you!!

Did you find yourself getting bossy? I am sure I would.

Crafting Mon 25-Aug-14 20:27:52

Did someone say butler? I can butle confused Galen I won't take up much room honestly.grin. Seriously Galen I hope you have a really good time. I think it would be a great idea for us to have a virtual party for you and all celebrate together wine wine and more [ wine]!

Happy birthday and bon voyage, I hope you have a wonderful time.

vegasmags Mon 25-Aug-14 10:37:24

Good for you Galen - so nice to have something special to look forward to.

Charleygirl Mon 25-Aug-14 10:36:06

It will certainly be a struggle but I am sure that you will get used to slumming it without a butler!!!

Galen Mon 25-Aug-14 10:33:34

Bella actually we do call at Malta. I'm there on the second of December. Valletta.
Mind you last time I was supposed to call in Malta we couldn't get in as strong winds in the wrong direction.

Galen Mon 25-Aug-14 10:29:06

My birthday is third December. I leave uk on 28 nov return 16 dec.
I shall be in Messina Sicily for the dread date! I fly out Venice and come back to Southampton after visiting Italy, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar.
I've booked Princess grills so no butler this time. You only get that if you upgrade to Queens-grill. The times I've done it it was a free upgrade!

Oh dear! Do you think I'll manage without a butler and two free bottles of vodka and the caviar?

Stansgran Mon 25-Aug-14 09:51:38

Sorry Galen I didn't wish you a happy birthday but surely it's next year?

Stansgran Mon 25-Aug-14 09:50:16

My DH is 70 next year. His birthday is always on the most inconvenient day of the year. Think hungover day when you're young. I do not have a clue what to give him. He is not someone who likes possessions. I was thinking a days fishing on a good river but yesterday he said he no longer wanted to go fishing by himself and I really can't afford to buy for two people and treat a friend.

Never mind apricot, the main thing is we are well and alive to celebrate our 70th birthdays! Why don't you treat yourself to some nice artwork, there are some lovely canvas art all ready to hang [ buy online for best choice] that's what we did for a recent birthday.

I shall be 70 at the New Year. Great timing by my parents, everyone's broke and partied-out, been here for Christmas then gone home for return to work and school.
My birthday's always a cold wet wash-out but I know my daughters are planning a special celebration, probably involving a £25 contribution from each. It won't be a cruise, maybe a canoe on the canal!

Penstemmon Fri 22-Aug-14 18:40:19

Sounds like you will have a good real and 'virtual' time celebrating!

Good for you Galen having something to look forward to on your special day. I had a look at your itinerary in the hope that you might be calling at Malta, but it seems not. Otherwise I would have been on the dock to welcome you grin

Charleygirl Fri 22-Aug-14 11:42:03

Galen Happy 70th whenever it is, join the 70 club! A cruise sounds like a fine idea, flowers for the day.

dorsetpennt Fri 22-Aug-14 11:28:38

Mazel Tov Galen. My 70th birthday was last month. My darling sweet daughter took me to Paris for three days. We'd been several years earlier and had discussed that we wanted to go back. So we did and a wonderful time we had too. BTW I want to back !!!

KatyK Fri 22-Aug-14 11:07:45

How lovely Galen. Enjoy it when it comes. I LOVE Venice. Happy 70th to everyone else with that special day coming up flowers

Nonnie Fri 22-Aug-14 10:07:40

Have fun.

Perhaps the grans who live within travelling distance of Southampton could give you a birthday send off or welcome back? Seems like a great reason for a meet.

newist Fri 22-Aug-14 10:06:40

Its my 70th in 3 weeks, nothing happening as wonderful as a cruise, but....
I shall be doing the one thing that I miss living in the Hebrides... Shopping!!
and a Pub. So I am going to Inverness to indulge myself. smile
