Where has the time gone?

My DGC are beginning their new school term on Thursday. They are 7 and 5, nearly 6. It seems like no time at all since I was ferrying them to Nursery School, when they lived nearby. My DD doesnt (sorry cant find apostrophe on computer keyboard). drive. DGS who is 4 is also off to Nursery School, so DGS3 will be home alone. I am getting to do the school run on Monday as DD and SiL are having a well earned long weekend away at a friends wedding.

My DGS starts school today and is swaying between excitement and fear! His little sister returns to nursery very confidently. I' m looking forward to hearing about their day but agree that it seems only recently that they were babies. They're close in age and DGD is already looking forward to next August. I am glad however that they haven't had to go at a very young age as DGS isn't brimming with confidence so 5 years and 5 months is fine for him.

My grandsons don't go back for another three weeks. They've been going to school for almost 2 years as they started a couple of days after their 4th birthday - far too young and they were falling asleep within minutes of getting home. It's flown by. I hope they all enjoy their first days at school

Where has the time gone? - it's all done buggered off! Sigh.

It seems very early for them to be goiung to school my G/C don"t start back till 3 weeks . In fact they are down for several days in a few days .

BIG EXCITMENT.!!

I'm doing the school run a couple of days a week this autumn; youngest is a couple of months over 4 and I felt he was far too young for 'before school clubs' [will be a shock to the system getting up early again, though, after a years retirement ].

Nonu in Scotland the summer holiday runs from the beginning of July until mid-August so our wee ones will be back this week or next according to different education authorities. Since it's been such a lovely summer the 6 weeks seem to have flown by even faster than usual!

GD2 started school today and loved it. Her best friends from nursery started today too and they are happy to be in the same class. DD and her friends were a bit weepy as this was their last baby going to school. The last two years of nursery seem to,have flown by which a couple of my friends and I enjoyed when we did nursery runs. GD1 started primary 5!

Oh, I really don't want them to grow up, it's happening too fast for Granny

Well think of us with a nearly 14 year old. Primary school went so quickly it seems to have G force! and now the 14 year old has entered adolescence and Nan and Grandad whilst he still seems to love us are getting a bit beyond the pale when seen out and one of his friends happen to go by!! Let's hope that we live long enough to see him become human again!

Merlot my son has a temporary job at his uni working on 'clearing'. Hope your GS gets the results he's looking for and doesn't need the services of my son (or his equivalent elsewhere). Results here were out over a week ago so good luck to everyone who's still waiting.

They've been on holiday in Orlando, mcem and didn't get back until early this morning.

I've just heard he got the grades he needed for his first choice.....Winchester.

Whoop Whoop!!

Was watching a young lass get her A level results. She needed three B's to get into university to do Adult nursing, that's general nursing. What has the world come to that you have to have A levels to study nursing, what about caring?

I think you'll find that nursing needs a good level of ability in Maths, written English, Sciences, Pyschology and Sociology. As one progresses in a nursing career the courses in specialisms, nursing research and management of nursing services require ever more intellectual rigour.

Caring has to be delivered and translated into action based on effective clinical decision making - its not all mopping fevered brows and flirting with the doctors sadly although I had my moments!

As a nurse for 25 years I have seen many changes in the caring profession. Started as a staff nurse and worked up to being a Nurse Specialist and I find some difficulty in agreeing with suebailey1.
Miss the basics and it does not matter how many qualifications a person has the patient suffers.
I trained at the time of the change from ward based to university based and I thought it a positive move as nurses needed to become more educated. Now In my opinion it's all gone too far away from the roots.

Brendawymms there is a heck of a lot if technical stuff nowadays a nurse needs to know, as well as the basic caring. My DD has just those A level subjects outlined by Suebailey1 and did a first degree in applied Social studies.

My DD went into nursing at 27. She is now working in ITU and doing extra training certificates. She really enjoys the basic patient care part of her job as well as the techy bits.

Particularly when thanked by a recovering patient who has just been able to have a hair wash. It seems to be the thing patients most enjoy and they get a real morale boost from this as well as the more technical input.

I only retired in March this year as a Nurse Specialist.

whenim64 that is the same as DGD1. I can't believe she will be starting her third year of school at the beginning of September but is not yet 6!

DH suggested today that if there is a 'crackdown' on resits for 'A' levels then consideration should be given to those whose birthdays are at the end of the school year and therefore they are only 17 when they take their exams.

I began my Nursing career in the '70's at the local NHS Psychiatric Hospital. I had no qualifications from school as I attended a secondary modern school and cse exams were not recognised. I took the aptitude test and got the best results that the head nurse tutor had seen. We had two weeks school and twelve weeks ward training each session over the 3 years 8 months course. I passed my finals and was employed by the hospital. I advanced to Sister grade before leaving to have my children. No doubt there is a lot to recommend university degree for nurses but in mental health nursing I can' t help thinkng that learning on the job is the better way.
P.S. My DGC age 7 and 5 started their new school today, after moving house in the summer holidays. I can't wait for a phoe call to say how they got on.

Realised DD will be 40 this year!!! How has that happened???
