Whenever I receive a call from a number I don't recognise, I use the website "who calls me" or "who called me". It's very useful for finding out where the calls come from. I get a call nearly every day from a 0191 number, apparently it's The Dogs Trust. Needless to say I never answer a call from a number I don't know. If it is important they will leave a message.

Beware of 02043 095294 number. We have had it twice in the last 2 days but have not answered it. Apparently it is a German code, the caller knows your name and address and asks for your date of birth purporting to be a government department. When people have tried to ring back it says number unknown.

Have you let your local police/age concern know Michael? Sometimes scammers target specific areas for brief periods, and I found the CSO very helpful when my mum was scammed. Hope your'e ok
