'Bo Peeps Arms' (formerly Pete's Bar) reopening night

Pete's old place has been empty for a while now but a few of us 'regulars' slipped down the lane one night, prised away a few planks holding the door on, and are now squatting in the public bar.

The tea-lights add an interesting 'dimension' to the bar (plus magically erase wrinklesgrin).

It needs cleaning up a bit - so laydees come along, bring rags/buckets/mops - and whatever else you can lay your mitts on to swab the decks down. I've brought a box of Country Manor perry - so bring your own tin mugs and we'll get started. The planned Grand Opening Night is tomorrow…so someone will need to nip down to the shop and get in a few bottles. Glam are you okay with rustling up some sausages rolls? you could put a bit of that green stuff (parsley?) on them to make them look posh…..

My heels are midway at 5" (not including the platform) I can stand on them OK but do resemble "Mrs Dick Emery" when walking & not too far at that.
I do feel that we must put restrictions on anyone wanting to visit the Posh Wine Bar our Laydee's can request a "pass out" if they feel they need a more up market venue just remember that they don't let you in when wearing your slippers or hair curlers as we do here.grin

ANA DEAR you have got it wrong they are only 4 inches, and you well know as, you have told me many, many 2 inches can make all the difference.
grin

Well, I would be, but I had to use my conical bra to set a couple of vodka jellies in! For the kids of course............ hmm

Ana Fri 22-Aug-14 20:22:38

I'm sure Nonu and Lona will be up for that one, bo! I know for a fact that Nonu already has the 6" heels, although I've just remembered she will be Estate-side on the relevant date (she likes slumming it a bit every now and then...wink).

Welcome to Bo Peeps hildaj. Liqueurs?hmm. There may be a drop of 'Water Cress & Dandelion Liqueur' left over from old young Bill Ball's days (he had the pub before Pete) I did spot a bottle in the cupboard-under-the-sink, it's either liqueur or slug killer - not sure which, would you like to try a drop to find out? (as you're new there's a Special Concession - you may have one sip free). Funny smell in here? Must be you (hope it's not the 'African Violet' scent I dabbed behind my knees earlier).

Ana The 'Look-a-likie Madonna' the Committee are referring to will need to raid the Play-School's fancy dress box for a conical bra, 6" high heels and a corset (I'm sure some laydees will already posses two of the itemsgrin). Hopefully Ana that will help establish which Madonna?

hildajenniJ Fri 22-Aug-14 18:36:07

Well, hello there you lot. Why don't I come here more often. Has bo got any liqueurs in stock. I've got a taste for them since trying my DD's blackcurrant liqueur made from the blackcurrants her MiL gave her. I might try "The Posh Wine Bar" if she hasn't. Is it must me, or is there a funny smell in here?

Ana Fri 22-Aug-14 18:34:48

Would that be the biblical Madonna or the pop singer? Wouldn't do for there to be any confusion...grin

(BTW I think one of the suggestions should be dismissed as being in poor taste straight away hmm)

boheminan Fri 22-Aug-14 18:29:18

Sorry, I was a bit longer than I thought I'd be up in the loft - I had to show the chimney sweep where the chimney isblush

Laydees. Can we have a Mass of Minds meeting (MOM) - a bit like a W.I. meeting without Jam and Jerusalem, and think about The Carnival? Any more ideas for games? exhibits for the Produce Stall?

The "Who Baked the Sunken Victoria Sponge Cake" competition has been put forward and accepted by the Committee, as has 'Guess How Many Grains Of Sand Is In The Pickle Jar' (within two, which gives everyone a fair chance).
Other games suggested are 'Hunt The Lost Grandchild', 'Dress Granddad Up As A Scarecrow' (for the children - or maybe some of the grannies would put their spouses forward?) Grannies equivalent could be Best 'Look-a-likie Madonna'
All ideas gratefully accepted...

What a lovely welcome Nonu I feel at home already smile

Nonu Fri 22-Aug-14 18:15:39

Hey here NEWIST, how very nice to see you, must admit I don"t come here that much these days since "The Posh Wine Bar " opened .

Stay with us Laydees at this end of the bar , they can get a bit leery up the other end .

newist Fri 22-Aug-14 18:07:43

Good evening Laydees, and others. I shall just sit quietly in a corner and sip my very small sherry. Living where I do I rarely go to a Public House, I feel that my Public House social skills may be lacking owing to the fact of , no practice!!. So if its all right with yous, I shall just observe how to conduct myself, I know if I follow your example I should be fine when I go on my holiday

Nonu Fri 22-Aug-14 17:37:33

Golly gosh *ANA & LONA, there are NO WORDS !!!!

EXCEPT Cheers .

Lona Fri 22-Aug-14 17:29:53

Ooh Nonu, I've just made an enormous meat pie, have you been spying on me? smile

I think Bo's got a fella (fireman?) on the side wink, she's always off somewhere dubious if you ask me!

Ana Fri 22-Aug-14 17:28:50

Hope she's not got stuck in the loft...shock

Nonu Fri 22-Aug-14 17:22:50

You are so very right LONA, but she still knocks out a pretty mean meat pie, so guess she can be forgiven,I am for it, if you are !!

Even better with brown sauce on but purleese don"t tell her as she might get THE HUMP and not let me have any more!
grin
Don"t know where BO is, not right really that we have to keep helping ourselves, she will have to run a tighter ship than this , if she wants to stay in business .

Chuckle

Lona Fri 22-Aug-14 16:38:54

glam You never can spell when you've got a hangover wink

glammanana Fri 22-Aug-14 15:49:33

^ woke up here this ^ not her confused

glammanana Fri 22-Aug-14 15:48:12

Ana I must have fallen asleep in the same corner as I woke up her this morning and wondered where I was, there was a strange bloke banging on the door saying he had been thrown out of the "Posh Wine Bar" and that this place was recommended to him by a guy called "Pete" who is camping up in the top field grin
I've not seen bo since she went up into the loft but she is bound to appear soon as the fireman is due on duty this evening and she needs to return his hosepipe.bo honesty box "you must be having a giraffe"

Ana Thu 21-Aug-14 21:36:28

Good, bo hasn't noticed me in the corner - stop hogging the brandy glamma, we'll get another one down once she's well out of the way in the loft...wink

boheminan Thu 21-Aug-14 21:22:26

G'evening glam. A flat-pack wagon sounds just up our street, and I don't think any of our laydees would object to a helping leg up from the old coal man (though a younger one would stand less chance of muscle strain). It looks like it may be down to just thee and me representing Bo Peeps on the coal lorry, so how about We load a couple of barrels (Brandy for you and Guinness for me) up on it and just do the whole Carnival procession pulling pints for ourselves, whilst throwing IOU's at the crowd? Do you reckon one donkey will be able to pull the coal wagon, two full barrels, and us?hmm).

I think my other customers have gone to try out the new Posh Wine Bar, or (heaven help 'em) gone back to the Drunken Duck. I've heard it said on good authority that the new Posh Wine Bar ^refuses to take IOU's^shock so they won't be there for long. Brandy? help yourself…..I'm just going to pop up to the loft to look for something to make a new Honesty Box out of (the old one has split at the seams)

Ana Thu 21-Aug-14 21:09:51

It's a long time to wait, isn't it? No sense of urgency, so I think I'll join you in a brandy or three, glamma (better leave two bottles, bo, IOU behind the second loo on the left as you go in...grin).

glammanana Thu 21-Aug-14 21:02:36

Looking forward to the Fiesta of the Floats bo what a way to celebrate your birthday,I can supply a flat back wagon which the old coal man used to use he said he is very happy to give all the laydee's a leg up if required hmm there is also the option of having one of the donkeys pull us on milk float, will leave it up to a vote we are sure to have loads more ideas.
While I am here I'll have a large brandy feel like letting go abit tonight its been a stressful day all round,on second thoughts just leave the bottle and I'll pay a week on Wednesday grin

boheminan Thu 21-Aug-14 11:58:19

Good morning Peeps. Any ideas for our float?

Nonu Wed 20-Aug-14 20:10:12

Damn & damn again I won"t be here
.
However I look forward very much to what ideas are floated !

smile

boheminan Wed 20-Aug-14 19:55:56

Laydees - A Very Exciting Announcement*wine. I...The Village Fete and Carnival Committee have decided on *Saturday, 4th October (which, just by co-incidence is my birthdaygrin) for the Big Parade. We don't have long to decide what Bo Peeps 'float' theme is going to be? Any more votes for the Surgical Aids as previously suggested? Or how about a Tropical Island? Maybe joined by the members of the Steam Baths. We could make Hula costumes (I have some lovely plastic chrysanthermum's somewhere in the loft) steel drums, I could ask Ernie Frisbee if he'd do his Elvis impersonation.
Over to you Laydees….
