What does borum mean anyway?
Is it a forum for bores?
Or a boring forum?
Just so I know.....

The "Oldie" magazine did a deal with GN at least two years ago to have a section of the forum for their readers, which was hosted in their mag as well as on here. I think they called it the Oldie Borum as a pun on boring forum. The mag goes in for that kind of joke.

They had previously had a forum of their own which folded due to dissention among the posters, so it had been closed down. Some of their posters joined Gransnet and were assimilated. The section is now just another bit of Gransnet.

Elegran It was the Saga forum which closed due to dissention.
The Oldie didn't have its own forum prior to the Oldie getting its own forum within Gransnet, UIAVMM.
However, the welcome that Oldie readers, of whom I was one, received from GN at the time left a lot to be desired sad

I think it took a while for the indigenous GN population to adjust to the Oldie style, jane.

I think it was just the fact that it was just sprung upon us with no explanation or introduction from GNHQ - some members had never even heard of the Oldie!

It was one of GN's famous headless chicken episodes...grin

I got the impression that the Oldie published a piece about the forum and a link before GN had told the members that it was on its way. a communication failure between the two organisations, I suspect. Whoever was doing the tech job at that time was not very quick at getting things uo and running, either.

Whatever the reason, there were suddenly a whole lot of people posting on a lot of different threads which had not existed before. I think it was Oldie management getting something (anything at all) into every topic, and duplicating a lot of topics and threads that already existed. Many people thought that Granset had been hacked into. Panic for a while, and a good bit of annoyance.

I seem to remember that the Oldie stuff was before the influx of Saga members, Janeainsworth and what I read about the collapsing forum concerned the Oldie, not at that time Saga.

Those members who came from the Oldie became indistinguishable from other GN members very quickly.
