I would like to say that as a Scot, I am embarrassed by the opening of the Games. We are a cultured nation, not that one would know that from that awful opening.

I was ashamed to be Scottish last night! It was dire and the outfits abominable. I did like the dogs though, then I switched the TV off, I had had enough.

I liked this rendition of "500 Miles", a highlight of the opening ceremony for me:

Did watch it until about 11 last night, the athletes were acting like it was a closing ceremony.
Trying to copy London in away but further down the scale.
Looking forward to watching track cycling today seems BBC3 is best option for coverage.

I seem to be on my own here then, because I thought the opening ceremony was lovely, a very happy and colourful affair. Years ago, when he (and I) was young, I hated Rod Stewart, but these days I like him, maybe because he`s started to sing nice stuff after all these years. Nice to see the bit of film of Andy Stewart, I used to like him. I`m not Scottish, just a lover of Scotland, maybe that`s why my opinion differs.

Oh apparently he is dead - quite a long time ago. But someone sounded just like him - maybe it was a recording or a hologram!

Tegan Thu 24-Jul-14 00:16:29

Andy Stewart shock. You mean he's not dead? You can't be serious? Is it still on. Who else will they find?

annodomini Thu 24-Jul-14 00:09:05

OMG - John Barrowman at his worst. And I thought Andy Stewart was dead. Did they dig him up? The wee Scotties were cute though!

Tegan Wed 23-Jul-14 23:44:06

Why do they have to have opening ceremonies. Can't they just turn up and do their sporting stuff? Is there going to be a closing ceremony as well. Don't they know when to stop and start if they don't have one?

The baton wouldn't open. The Queen (almost) cracking up. Best bit of the ceremony grin

Marmight Wed 23-Jul-14 23:34:57

Queen looks very perky. I thought she'd need her bed by now. Good for her tbwink

Best bit now, a Gaelic song from a singer of where I live

merlotgran Wed 23-Jul-14 23:26:19

Do you think the Queen is still awake?

Nicola Benedetti has lost a lot of weight. Not that she was big before.

Yes you can, he's dreadful now! Not as bad as Paul McC admittedly... but he's lost his voice.

I made DS watch it with me so that he could see the awful Scottish shirts and I could offer to buy him one. He declined extremely forcefully. We thought they should have been wearing the English team's outfits.

And those people leading the countries, they looked like poor wee Scottish crofters! It didn't look good on anyone, no matter who, what age, or size they were!
