We picked a £10 note up off the floor when leaving a fish and chip restaurant in St. Andrews, and handed it over the counter, hopefully it found it`s way back to it`s owner.

I once found a purse full of money in a phone box (Obviously quite a few years ago!) It was just before Christmas so the owner was obviously on a shopping trip and I handed it in to the police station. I got my pay back a couple of years later when someone did the same for me smile

The only time I have never handed money in was when I have found eg a tenner in a street. I have always handed in credit cards etc.as they can be traced.

I must say I always hand things in. Many, many years ago while still with exdh, we went to the pub and decided to sit in the garden. Looking down I saw a £10 note, and went with it to the bar. It turned out that the people who had just vacated that table were friends of the owners who were going through hard times, but had popped in to see them on the way back froma family gathering.

The pub owners were so pleased at our honesty (and the fact that they could return the money to their friends),that they insisted on treating us to a drink and a sandwich each on the house!

I found a £10 note in the change slot of a self service till a month or so ago and I handed it to the assistant so if you go back someone may have handed it in.

Tegan Tue 22-Jul-14 12:50:05

nina; contact them..someone might have been honest. Failing that, totally blank it out of your mind [that's my coping strategy]. I had a £10 floating around in my handbag for ages and kept thinking 'I must put that in my purse'. Then it wasn't there and I can't for the life of me remember buying anything with it sad.

Nonu Tue 22-Jul-14 12:42:05

You never know, someone may have found your £10 note and handed it in.
There are still some honest people about, or at least give them a ring, you have got two chances

Nonu Tue 22-Jul-14 12:40:00

Go back and tell them , I would !

Have just returned from Tesco and realized I'm a daft old bat !
I bought an item priced at £10 got to the self service till and was delighted to find it was reduced to £7. I put my £20 note in the slot, took my 3x£1 coins and walked away with my 'bargain' which has cost me £17 !!! so annoyed with myself.
