Poignant! smile&sad

Yes it is poignant! thanks for that Jingle.

To take a slight sideways look of this, in a way I think the ones that worry me most are the lad with the military style bedroom and the beauty pageant girl, its what their parents seem to be setting them up to be which worries me.

The other children in severe poverty have no choice. (That is absolutely dreadful) but I hope someone sees what I am getting at here.

Nelliem Yes, that's what struck me, too! The poverty is shocking, but the military boy and beauty pageant girl are so contrived, as though the parents are treating them as objects not people. Wonder what the future holds for any of them?

Poignant indeed!

Moving and thought provoking- as the children from the more affluent backgrounds perhaps seem more the 'victims' of the society around them.

How awful. My own son's room is most like the Japanese boy's. grin

Thank you Jingl Nellie that is exactly what struck me. I thought it frightening, the lad with all the guns, I mean.

Thanks jingl.
Did anybody else feel immediately thankful that our own children and grandchildren (hopefully) have comparatively luxurious places to sleep? And at the same time I'd almost like to send them off (for a very short time) to experience the hardships faced by some of those youngsters photographed.

I've just come from my first overnight visit to daughter's new house and the children's bedrooms are wonderful; plus they have the added benefit of a playroom. I do hope they grow up to appreciate what they have and not take it for granted.

We have three children aged 9,7 and 5. They have bedrooms which are beautifully carpeted, painted etc. They have everything that they need and much, much more. They have luxury duvets, pillows and bed linen which are covered in felt tip pens and nail varnish. I will not shout at them for this because the fact that they colour on their bed is wonderful. It is their own personal space and I want them to feel that it is theirs.

Ours have a playroom too which is larger than the one lounge that we had in the home when I was little. We live in a lovely middle class area where many children attend private school and most parents have new cars and horses.

They know no different, it is their world and they do not question. Each generation wants to give their children what they did not have and grandparents are just the same with their grandchildren.

thay have so many toys and yet they have the most fun with a box of lego, a cardboard box or a fallen down tree trunk at the park.

I protect my children from the world - they do not listen to or watch the news and I shall keep them in this bubble so that they have a wonderful childhood that is not destroyed by the outside world.

One thing I shall do though, is sit them down and show them this blog and hopefully it will emphasise just how lucky they are.
