Agus By the by, when I mentioned the videos we've been giggling/blubbing over, I should have said that what brought a lump to our throats was seeing my late father with his great grandchild (not grandchild.) The same greatgrandchild, who was one week old at the time, is now 24 and will be getting married next Spring.

Soutra and moomin Three of our grandchildren [when much younger] attended Oakham school. Oakham is where son number two lives. It is the venue for our family gathering. . As for Weston Favell. When I was a child it was a weeny village with a butcher, baker (with whom villagers left their Sunday Yorkshire puddings to be cooked in his vast oven before being collected at 12.30 sharp and carried home covered by a clean tea towel), a grocer (who's son would deliver the shopping, by bike with a huge basket on the front, to the customer's kitchen) and a small wool shop that also served as a library. The school was bijou...with just two teachers. Many of the pupils passed the 11plus and went on to Grammar School. I left Weston Favell just before it expanded into a sprawling outcrop. I have heard of but never visited the new shopping mall. I like to remember WF as the picturesque village of my childhood. Soppy, or what? Almost forgot...MacSporran and I were married in Oundle. We both know Olney very well. Lots of pretty villages and delightful pubs, such the Fox and Hounds at Althorp. Happy memories of times spent there with family.

rosequartz I bought a punnet of British plums from Tesco in Campbeltown. They are juicy and sweet and so unlike the plums that are imported from foreign parts. Damson jam just happens to be my favourite. Also greengage. Are greengages a member of the same family?

Baubles 3500 photographs. Gulp...pass the smelling salts... My goodness, you will have achieved something special when you have sorted through that lot. So many memories. I could not bear to lose our vast collection of albums. Should there be a fire, I would need to take them all to safety...together with MacS and a certain big black cat.

kittylester your granddaughter is wearing a smile to match her beautiful birthday dress. I echo Agus's comment...helping her to choose the dress, must have been a very special event for both of you.

Charleygirl I'm going to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY in good time, as I may be at the family gathering and unable to do so on the actual day. I shall however be thinking of you. The new kitchen will still be known as Soop's Kitcheners Who knows, it may well open with happy birthday bunting, balloons and party poppers.

Thanks soop, mine is on the 22nd- 29 years old-again. I was horror struck (stricken?) when I was 70 last year, hopefully next Monday I will not have lost the will to live being another year older. The new kitchen will be open long before next Monday.

I'm not surprised you had a wee bubble Soopwatching your father with his great granddaughter, you are lucky to have this on film. I'm sure your granddaughter will be emotional too when she sees herself with her great grandfather.

Charleygirl You, my dear, are still young in spirit. That's a very important fact of life. I shall be 74 next birthday. For as long as I have reasonably good health, I shall continue to enjoy my birthday celebrations with gusto.

You ask...does Rory have an inkling? Not just yet. Being away from him will be difficult. Our good pal will be on hand to soften the blow of being without MacSporran. I'm nowhere near as special in Rory's estimation. Yet, without a doubt, I shall fret...

Yesterday morning MacS discovered a rabbit carcass in the middle of the road, a small distance from the entrance to our drive. He was concerned that Rory would pick up the scent and attempt to investigate. MacS "grounded" Rory (who sat peering through the window) and removed the carcass. He then took the broom into the middle of the road and swept the patch, after which, he swilled a bucketful of water laced with disinfectant over said area. An hour or so later, Rory was accompanied into the back garden...the front still being deemed to be a danger zone.

Agus It was delightful to see my father looking extremely well and proud. He kept saying...she just smiled at me...the rest of us knew that the grin was more of a grimace. We didn't spoil the moment by explaining that, at one week old, she would be suffering with wind.
