Soops kitcheners

If you don't hear from me for a wee while don't worry - there's nothing wrong. I just feel a bit shell shocked after the mischief wrought in the Trevor 47 business and feel the need for a break. Just one thought - many of you post some lovely pics especially of DGC on GN. Bearing in mind that posters are not always necessarily who they claim to be - do exercise discretion won't you?
I'll be keeping an eye on you all - so BE GOOD!!

Speaking of mice, I had a visit from the flying kind this morning. I went to bed last night and left my bathroom window open. When I got up this morning to get ready for work, I opened the shower door and saw a dark shape on the drain in the shower tray. I went for my glasses, and low and behold a little pipistrelle bat was lying there. I gathered up my clothes, shower gel etc. and went to the downstairs shower, saying to DH in passing, "there's a dead bat in the shower upstairs". Anyway, I had my shower and breakfast and thought I'd dispose of the bat before leaving for work. I opened the shower door to find that the bat was very much alive. I couldn't catch it in a towel so I got a jug and a stiff envelope from the kitchen and proceeded to gather it up. I opened the window wide and held the envelope out. The bat flew away apparently none the worse for it's bathroom adventure. AND I wasn't late for work!

Soutra What am I missing? Who is Trevor? Please share.

rosequartz It be damp and cool here in bonnie Kintyre. Mouse has either bedded down or escaped. Rory couldn't care less. How do I know? He's wearing his 'I'm thoroughly bored' expression.

Trevor is a poster that recently joined and made quite a few posts (very long ones) and some members thought he was someone that had been a previous member but had reinvented himself. Trevor took exception to this. Trevor was also picked up on his writing style - he also took exception to that.

Then I see that one of his threads has been deleted so now, I am also wondering what happened! Especially given Soutra's post above!

I've got rhubarb and ginger flapjacks here if anyone would like to try them. Very more-ish but I advise you don't eat more than one unless you want your plumbing feeling like it's been Dyno-rodded!

soop, you don't want to know. Your kitchen is a place of peace and quiet and relaxation not for digging up the old bones of other threads. As we all know, there shouldn't be any crossover between threads. Let's just forget that subject, shall we? Watching rugby sevens at the Games. It's such a great spectator sport. My lucky sister and BiL are there, but as far as I can tell haven't been caught on camera yet.

I've made ginger flapjacks but I've never tried making them with rhubarb - I shall try that!

Don't put too much in Hollydaze - that rhubarb was quite potent!

Ginger goes well with rhubarb. My mother-in-law used to make rhubarb and ginger jam which was very nice.

I've just made apricot and peach ice cream and vanilla refrigerator biscuits (from Jane Grigson's Fruit book) we have very special friends coming tonight.
To start, one raviolo each filled with ricotta, dill and Parmesan and garnished with asparagus and pesto. Then queen scallops on a bed of samphire. Then a very small piece of fillet steak served on a round of toast topped with duxelles.

Loved doing all that. Dreading having to mop the kitchen floor.

That sounds like a heavenly meal, MiceElf. Please bring a doggy bag over here when they've gone home.

Of course I'm not cooking now, I'm taking a rest and I've just looked at my courgette plants. Thirty or so flowers and only one courgette. Why?

rosequartz the dust will still be there in January when you will have more energy to do some cleaning. Rory and Tara have their meals served, unfortunately you do not, that is a slight difference. The mat at the front sdoor in front of the catflap is rough so Tara folds it over so that she snoozes on the smooth, cooler side! There are no flies on her! She has retired upstairs for 7 hours + rest. Rory and Tara could sleep for GB.

Courgette flowers - yum! No need to wait for the courgettes, is there?

Surely they can't all be male flowers, Mice! If they are, you can dip them in batter and fry them - allegedly; I've never tried it. If they are male flowers, you need to snip them off anyway to give the plant strength to produce corgette-bearing females. That's right - the females do all the hard work.

How do I tell the difference between male and female flowers?

Galen you've given me an idea. I have two bottles of Madeira from two years ago when we went there.

Male flowers have much thinner stalks, MiceElf.

Hi everyone, life is quite hectic here at the moment so I am not getting in as often as I'd like but I am thinking of you all and catching up every now and again even if you don't notice me in the [extremely large ] corner over there.

I have brought some gorgeous ginger beer, not home made, but made in the nearby [ish] Belvoir Castle area, so it is almost as good as! The man in charge of making it is called Pev(eril) Manners - now there is posh!

They've all got thin stalks except the one with the courgette and that doesn't have a stalk. It's growing from the base of the plant.

Dry sercial is what I use. A little dilute stock, cot flour and the Madeira. Boil them all together to reduce down .

Also lovely with veal liver cooked with onions until just pink and the jus made with pan juices. Fegato a veneziana
