feetle I had never heard of Barb Jungr. Just listened to Don't Leave Me Now. A very good English version and I like her voice so will have a,listen to more of her on you tube.

DH saying he is going to have another go at Brel. Will make a welcome change for me as he is playing Indian music constantly at the moment!

I'm a bit of a Brel enthusiast... I was 'turned on' to him by Mort Shuman, who had translated many of his sings for the show/film "Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris". Notably, though, in the film 'Ne me quitte pas' was sung in French, by Brel himself, sat at a bare café table, wreathed in Gauloise smoke...

Our song is Da Do Ron Ron by the Crystals, it was playing on the radio on the night I met DH. The words ... " met him on a Monday and my heart stood still ". It was a Monday and the rest is history

A few weeks later he went out on a drugs raid, I was rather grumpy so didn't return his 'see you later ' with my usual 'take care ' he died that night. Annie something I would have loved would have been to hear her live but I make do with recordings of her concerts along with CDs and tapes.

feetle that is a wonderful song. We sing many jazz standards in our "sing for fun" community choir including that one.

@janerowena - Ne me quitte pas is an extraordinary song - not least because the singer is so desperate, so willing to nullify himself to prevent the lady ditching him.... willing to become her shadow, or even her dog's shadow. And yet Brel was hardly the least misogynistic man ever! I recenty heard it sung by Edith Piaf, which was amazing...

My own favourite must be All The Things You Are - with music by the immortal Jerome Kern and words by Oscar Hammerstein II. "You are the promised kiss of springtime..."

Also love Ne me quitte pas jane but my preferred version is by Edith Piaf. The emotion in her voice is heart wrenching.

I have quite a few favourites, but do have a soft spot for Behind Closed Doors, by Charlie Rich, dates from around 1975, I think, that`s when I first heard it.

Just watched the YouTube clip of Islands in the Sun. I love it. There are so many songs which touch my heart. Showing my age here but anything but Scott Walker still does it for me every time.
