Favourite love songs

"September Song" by Nat King Cole.
It brings tears to my eyes every time.

I spent much of my yoof in France, and this was the constant backdrop to many an ill-fated romance. Ne me quitte pas, by Jacques Brel. I don't think any other love song comes anywhere near it for passion and emotion.

Oh the 'mixed cassette tape. What do young people do now without them? It was so poignant the way that prospective suitors would deliver them to our house for my daughter to listen to; almost something Jane Austen'ish about them.

DH made one for me when we had just started going out. One track was Van Morrison - Brown Eyed Girl for obvious reasons. At that point I was living in the Nurses Home during my training and friends on my floor would eventually shout "will you turn that bloody music down Agus"

I remember receiving those! How funny, I had forgotten. Then I would dump them for their appalling taste in music.

Just watched the YouTube clip of Islands in the Sun. I love it. There are so many songs which touch my heart. Showing my age here but anything but Scott Walker still does it for me every time.

DS got married recently and as part of his speech he picked up his guitar and sang 'You are Beautiful' to his bride. Think I will dissolve every time I hear that now.

I love the rawness and honesty of this, no soppiness at all.

I have quite a few favourites, but do have a soft spot for Behind Closed Doors, by Charlie Rich, dates from around 1975, I think, that`s when I first heard it.

I have that on an album number - love it!

I agree Annie, loving someone regardless of their imperfections.

Also love Ne me quitte pas jane but my preferred version is by Edith Piaf. The emotion in her voice is heart wrenching.

@janerowena - Ne me quitte pas is an extraordinary song - not least because the singer is so desperate, so willing to nullify himself to prevent the lady ditching him.... willing to become her shadow, or even her dog's shadow. And yet Brel was hardly the least misogynistic man ever! I recenty heard it sung by Edith Piaf, which was amazing...

My own favourite must be All The Things You Are - with music by the immortal Jerome Kern and words by Oscar Hammerstein II. "You are the promised kiss of springtime..."

feetle that is a wonderful song. We sing many jazz standards in our "sing for fun" community choir including that one.

Anyone prepared to say what 'their song' is - you know the one you share or shared with a partner. Ours is Baker Street by Jerry Rafferty- the soaring saxophone solos expressed was just how we felt at the time when we met.

suebaily, mine has to be 'She' - sorry critics . Because it was the last record! my husband bought for me. A few weeks later he went out on a drugs raid, I was rather grumpy so didn't return his 'see you later ' with my usual 'take care ' he died that night. A long time ago, but I still remember how the words of that song helped my guilt over being - beastly I suppose
