EM , forgive my ignorance but who is Baroness Trumpington ?

Don't apologise nonu Baroness Trumpington is 91 in the House of Lords. During WW2 she was a code breaker at Bletchley Park.

She has been known to give a fellow member of the House of Lords two fingers when he annoyed her.

She says at her age she is not frightened saying just what she wants. She is a treasure and totally non PC.

She is indeed a formidable woman and has a wicked sense of humour. likes a 'snifter' and doesn't suffer a fool gladly.

I suppose it is amusing she has gained such popularity recently by 'chucking the V sign' in the House of Lords but it sums her character up. She certainly has an interesting history. I bet she could tell a tale or two.

I heard (by accident) part of an interview she did with Clare Balding and,agree, she sounded a fascinating character!

All welcome pogs I wonder if she could be persuaded to join Gransnet or do a blog for us ? She would certainly cause an eyebrow or two to raise.

However I suspect she wouldn't stay within the Guidelines and she would say 'Boll.... To them'!

Ana it wasn't her swearing that I was alluding to, it is the content of her dialogue (sorry that sounds a bit pompously written) perhaps what I meant was she says exactly what she thinks and it is not always within modern day acceptance.

You are probably correct, she would.

She wouldn't bat an eyelid and would give as good as she got no doubt, that's why I like her so much. After all she has heard it all before, experienced it all before.

It does remind me that the House of Lords is stuffed to the rafters but those who consider age to be a barrier are at times quite wrong in their belief. The likes of Baroness Trumpington and Lord Tebbit could run rings around a lot of their younger peers.

Could Baroness Williams be invited too?

Why the need to even it up? It's not Question Time, it was just a pie and a pint. I think the intention was to have a jolly time, not to get intense about matters best left for another time.
