Puff the Magic Dragon makes me cry

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has been driving along in the car with tears pouring down my face because of a record that's come on the radio!!!
Unlike Puff, which sets me off just thinking of the words, the culprits on the radio have come right out of the blue with no obvious reason for my reaction other than pure nostalgia.
(Does my last sentence even make sense? I'm not sure, but hopefully you know what I'm trying to say!)

In case anyone was worried - the Meatloaf song is called 'Is nothing sacred' -phew!

The BBC theme tune for the London Marathon coverage always brings a tear to my eye, but I don't realy know why!

I love 'The Day Before You Came' too Eloethan and have never met anyone else who 'got it'.

I also well up at 'I will always love you' particularly by Dolly Patton.

Lots of country songs are very moving. And a Meatloaf one, the title of which has just 'gone'.

DH and I are like Jack Spratt and his wife in our musical rastes - he likes the music while I love the words!

I am also tearful when I watch on YouTube 'On a clear day' by Barbara Steisand. I think it reminds me of my youth and how things used to be.

Andrew Gold 'Lonely Boy' is another weepie. He wrote 'Thank you for being a friend' and some other classics.

That's very sad, Janerowena! Young children do take things so literally though and it's understandable that you'd think the boy had died rather than just grown out of believing in dragons.

I keep having to remind DH that our GC don't always 'get' his jokey responses to their perfectly reasonable questions...

Yes, Puff makes me sad too. I heard it when I was quite little and it made me howl! My teacher was concerned because every story I wrote had a little dying boy and a dragon in it.

I always used to get my children to sleep singing Morningtown Ride to them [it's not sad BTW] it's cheerful. I also used to sing it to DGS1 when he stayed overnight with us, it's too babyish for him now [he says] he is 9 so I sing Lemon Tree [very pretty] and Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree[with anyone else but me] and also Yellow Bird [up high In Banana Tree] because he likes trees.
My teenage crush on Matt Monroe means I can't hear On Days Like These without a blush . It's a great song though, and the film The Italian Job opens with this song [ the mafia waiting to blow up the man in the sports car as he drives through the idyllic mountain roads.]

Rosequartz I agree about 'Two little boys' but now it has been ruined for me and many others.

Oh, my two sing those songs from Frozen relentlessly...it's OK for the first few times, but...

DGD2 may enjoy it but will probably prefer something from Frozen or Sleeping Beauty (at least the Sleeping Beauty Waltz is an introduction to Tchaikowsky).

My dad used to sing Scarlet Ribbons to me and I remember my mum singing Che Sera Sera. Happy memories that can make me well up. I tried Morningtown Ride out on one of my DGS recently - he wasn't too impressed.

Yes rose - the original line up. Judith Durham looks more or less the same. Unfortunately I have just looked at their website and the tour finished on 3 June. I tried to get DH to go but he wasn't having any of it. They have an up to date photo on their website if you want to take a peek.

Well, Two Little Boys by Rolf Harris always brought the tears to my eyes. But not any more.

I don't think Puff made me cry, I just used to sing it very loudly. (I may still have an LP under the stairs!)

I loved The Seekers. They are touring again, with the same line-up.

I used to sing this to my reception class. One little boy used to ask to be excused to stand in the cloakroom as it made him cry. (The song, not my singing - I think.)

MamaCaz I recently started a similar thread when "You Raise Me Up" made me cry. I think music can stir something deep inside of us.

I had completely forgotten about "Morningtown Ride" - will have a listen now tissues at the ready!
