Trooping the Colour

We watched some of the trooping of the colour [not all it went on for ages.]DH liked the military stuff, and I liked the horses[they were all I looked at actually.] So glossy, like mirrors! I thought there were a lot of greys, maybe more than you would expect.So well trained too, their ears didn't even twitch at all the military yelling and shouting.

Yes, penguinpaperback, she would have been a wonderful grandmother - very hands-on as she was with her own children and such a sense of fun as well.

She may have been a wonderful MIL! She loved her sons so deeply, I can't imagine her doing anything that would have risked driving a wedge between them and her.

Tegan - yes, it was a very brave thing to do to be out there and to highlight something that no-one else seemed to want to do and I think that was her forte wasn't it. Remember how she held hands with people who had HIV and the world gasped at how careless she was being; it turned out she was right all along.

I agree about taking her sons to see the homeless and people who are ill - I think that helped to shape them into the lovely, caring, gentle young men that they have become. When I see them on tv helping with various causes but especially with children, they have such a connection with those youngsters don't they.

Thinking about it, William does look a bit like Earl Spencer - I hadn't really made that connection before but William still looks like Diana as well

Holly;When she did that landmines walk I wanted to write to her and thank her; I wish I had now. I thought it was one of the most amazing things I'd seen a Royal person do. OK she probably wasn't in any danger when she did it but it still highlighted the problem. And the way she took her sons to see homeless people etc. No need for her to have done that. When her car went past the end of our road I couldn't believe I was looking at the most famous person in the world; seeing the tunnel where she died when I was in Paris brought all the sadness back. Maybe the fact that she did have her faults made her even more human. William looks like Earl Spencer.

Harry doesn't look at all like her - William does though (although he has the Windsor teeth).

Ana - not a problem, I don't expect everyone to share my opinion. I don't even know what it is about Diana - I wish I did then I would understand why.

celebgran - you actually met her! Lucky you she was stunning and it's one of the things I like about William, he looks so much like her - he also seems to have her gentle, caring ways as well (mind you, so does Harry).

Holly daze couldn't have put it better myself I sae Diana twice she was absolutely stunning no one comes close.

Yes, I was a great admirer of hers. Every now and again, someone with great charisma enters the world stage and she was one of those people - it's fascinating and I wish I understood it better (well, at all really). There was something very captivating about her.

Looked it up. No women in the infantry, and some other units. For officers women are not allowed in Household Cavalry, Armoured units and infantry. So if the bearskin wearers are infantry then no women.

Difficult to tell under all that hat Hollydaze . Some of the musicians definitely are. Is there some technicality about women not fighting in front line so they would not be included in certain regiments?

Are any of the guards female?

I watched the highlights this evening. I was driving out of Waitrose car park today when I saw the 4 helicopters returning to RAF Northolt. I have never seen a Chenook in the sky before quite so close. All of the cars in front of me stopped to look.
