So what are you going to do in the evenings while the football is on>

I intend to make all my Christmas cards & save the last minute panic that usually ensues, take a long walk when the weather is fine & sit in the garden with several glasses of wine & some good books.
Actually I find it very liberating not to have to look at TV listings to see if there is anything I want to see on each day.
Usually DH is complaining that I ' am always out these days' (blame the WI!!)but he won't notice for the next 4 weeks.
Mind you there is the rugby on Saturday morning-now that I will be watching!!!

I won't be anywhere near it tonight as I have to go to my first ever hen night, clubbing and all that it entails. Including a cross the harbour ferry trip.
Football suddenly seems attractive.

As the builders will be finished by Monday, i shall spend the summer evenings repairing the damage to the garden due to piles of building materials ( killed lawn) and weed filled flower beds ( cant reach them at mo). So half an hour valiant efforts with much harrumphing and waving about of gardening gloves/secateurs etc to set the scene, then into a hidden corner with a glass of cold white or a Pimms. Anyone here tried the lovely new blackberry and elderflower one? lovely with lemonade and heaps of ice.

Won't make much difference to us. DH has no interest in watching any kind of sport and neither have I, to be honest we have rather lost interest in any television at the moment. Nothing on that really interests us.

It is something we do when we are under the weather or very, very tired.

Watching Wimbledon for two weeks and ignoring anything to do with football on radio or tv

marigold1 Fri 13-Jun-14 12:10:13

|Yes, we will be watching SOME football, thankfully DH is selective to what games he wants to see, I will be feeding the freezer while this excitement is on............ but mention Wimbledon and I will be glued to the box, that is where all the hard work of feeding said freezer comes in to play!

As I live alone, it will make no difference to me. I don't watch sport. If the TV schedules are rubbish, then I have quite a few DVDs I need to watch, plus my Kindle is calling me!!

This is the time of year for cricket, tennis, the Open. Football occupies the rest of the year to a fault. Give it a rest, PLEASE!

Agus Fri 13-Jun-14 08:29:34

Nothing against football, just not interested so we will just go on as normal.

Good luck to those of you supporting you team. football

PRINTMISS Fri 13-Jun-14 08:23:37

There is also the Cricket, which no-one seems to appreciated. I just love it, and although we do can't watch it live, we catch up with an hour of it on Chanel 5 in the evening. Spent many happy your as a child with my dad watching the locals in the park, and later was pleased to learn how to score for my husband's team. A nice gentle afternoon's activity.

Northern Exposure is utterly delightful. Just went on one series too long.
I don't detest football, it is good exercise for those who participate, but watching them do it I find as gripping as watching someone having a nice read. Looking forward to the other sporting highlights - tour de france and commonwealth athletics.

I do not detest football. It's a good game. Some of my Cubs (girls and boys) have very good football skills. I'ts good to see their dedication and enthusiasm.

I'm aware that some football is being played somewhere, mainly because of it being mentioned on gransnet. My evenings while this football is apparently on the telly will be no different from usual. I'll be doing what I usually do in the evenings, which doesn't include watching telly.

Ariadne Fri 13-Jun-14 06:58:36

I detest football and all the media frenzy about it. Fortunately, Theseus, although a fan of many sports (sigh) doesn't care that much for football, so I'll be spared all the screaming commentaries and extra hype.

It's the local Triathlon this weekend, and DS2 and DDiL are taking part, Theseus is involved in organising it, so the DGC (all six!) and I will go to the beach.

I shall read, use Netflix and DVDs. Don't care for Twix, but like the white wine...

annodomini Fri 13-Jun-14 00:06:09

The football is only on one channel at a time as far as I know. I have plenty of other channels and that's just the free to air ones.

durhamjen Thu 12-Jun-14 23:33:30

Watch the football so I have something to talk to my son and grandson about. That's all they'll talk about for the next few weeks.

Ana Thu 12-Jun-14 23:21:45

Oh, janerowena I loved that!! I didn't know anyone else had even heard of it...(and anno, sorry - got a bit carried away there). Thanks for reminding me - must get the box set.

janerowena Thu 12-Jun-14 23:15:09

Northern Exposure - I keep meaning to get hold of that set.

annodomini Thu 12-Jun-14 22:40:33

Jess - one of the best series ever! I think I shall put that on my wish list together with boxed sets of Six Feet Under and Northern Exposure... I must start working on my family soon.

GrandmaH Thu 12-Jun-14 22:10:03

I went shopping during the last WC final- actually I think England were playing. I expected an empty shopping centre but it was really busy & not all women either. I was quite disappointed.
I'm not sports averse-I do like cricket & tennis- well Rafa anyway- can't be bothered with women's tennis or Andy Murray & I am rugby mad- just love it! Watch it any opportunity I get- I even have a season ticket at London Wasps. I just find football & motor sport unbelievably boring.

ninathenana Thu 12-Jun-14 22:06:29

DH is not interested, thank heavens. So watching any other channel.

JessM Thu 12-Jun-14 21:54:25

watching The West Wing series one, which I did not see before. Blurry but good.

sunseeker Thu 12-Jun-14 21:51:12

I have downloaded lots of books to my Kindle and I also have the box set of all 8 seasons of 24 to watch - sorted!

Deedaa Thu 12-Jun-14 21:44:26

I shall be watching all Italy's games and hoping they win again!

HollyDaze Thu 12-Jun-14 21:39:20

I'm being hopeful grin

Ana Thu 12-Jun-14 21:21:21

That long...? hmm
