An odd phenomenon

For my wedding anniversary my DH bought me a brick with my name on it which was set in a path at Monkey World in Dorset. It's a lovely feeling to know my grandchildren may walk along that path one day and know their Nan loved animals as well as them.

They get all my clearing out stuff! Things don't last very long under their inquisitive fingers and teeth, but it gives a bit more use before they disintegrate completely.

Apparently they were very keen on an old bit of blanket that they were given, fighting over who was going to sit on it. It made me wonder what else I have lurking in the back of the wardrobe. Somewhere I still have the blankets that were replaced by duvets but kept "in case"

Well fancy that! there is a use for everything!

Put them in a jiffy bag and send them to the Budongo Trail chimp house at Edinburgh Zoo.The keepers enrich their lives by hiding their food in old socks, T-shirts, pillow cases etc so that they have to work a bit harder to find and extract it. They are fed at random times, too, and the rest of their food is not presented to them in a nice tidy bowl but scattered among the bushes in their enclosure. In the wild they would spend a lot of their time searching for little bits of food, so it makes it more natural for them.

Hildajen, we have a whole bagful of odd socks in the airing cupboard, could some of them be yours? Over the years I have thrown away enough odd socks to stock the Sock Shop over and over.

Crafting I have several odd sock, so does DH and we both do the washing. They could well be scattered all across the kingdom or be off into the twighlight zone, who knows? Do you ever put something down in one place and find it somewhere completely different the next time you want it? This happens all the time here.

Tangled jewellery, clothes going awol, I'm having such fun reading all this. Being new to GN I just wanted to say you've brightened my day! I often wondered why three pairs of socks go into the washer and only five come out, now I know!

Days not day - I'm cracking up !

know 'senile' is the correct word, it's just that at its very mention some people assume 'away with the fairies and possibly dribbling'...

Hmm...not sure about the 'senile' bit!

I heard a nice expression on Woman's Hour today: 'benign senile forgetfulness' which apparently is not a sign of dementia. So now we have a name for it.

Where do all those fugitive thoughts go to? Is there a Lost Think Tank somewhere surrounded by confused people fishing around for inspiration?

Bout 10 mins ago I thought about another unexplained phenomenon which I was going to post up - then I found it has just gone from my memory, this is very annoying.

Thanks Anno They are all little individual characters. They squabble a lot, but they also show really affectionate behaviour too. The biggest is beginning to look just like Dad, who is a fine handsome chap.

Maybe our wardrobe is the other end of a portal too Aka? Pair of cream linen trousers currently winging their way to Alpha Centauri? Might be sent back at Christmas when totally inappropriate for the weather.

I found a skimpy pair of black nylon knicks in my back garden the other day. I don't know what they were on the run from, but as they were torn and chewed the mind boggles.

On the other hand, the fox family along the road have a penchant for old shoes and gloves, so maybe they are branching out ( latest shots of them )

I put the buttons in my button box. I know the younger generation does not know what a button box is but my granny and my mother all had them. You just have a biscuit tin and stow all your spare buttons so that if you've lost one it saves you buying a whole set. I also cut off buttons from a cardi that is past it and save a whole set of buttons. Buttons are also a good rainy day pastime for slightly older kids (past the stage of putting stuff into their mouths) and they play with them quite happily.
By the way Im the least organised person ever. Im off now to wash last nights dishes and iron last weeks clothes.
