This morning I witnessed my first town carnival procession N Wales style.
At the front of the parade were about 30 vehicles each bearing "princesses". Most of them were about 7 I guess. All done up in frills etc. Some on small floats with attendants. Some in the back of a 4x4 with the tailgate up. I think there were 2 or 3 boys involved as attendants, dressed as for a formal wedding. Proud parents walked behind. Some children happy, some not, a few had perfected a queenly wave.
Makes a bit of whinging about gender stereotyping of Lego seem trivial!
Then there was other carnival stuff - a samba band, sea monsters etc
Apparently there was going to be some kind of competition for best princess later.
I was agog! I had seen this kind of thing in the Canary Islands ( i seem to recall children were on foot there) but never in UK. Is it common, or just local to this area?
What "back then" inconvenience would annoy today's youngsters?

Help with some diplomatic wording please
What's one health habit you've started that's actually made a difference?

It's a North Wales thing. We saw one in Barmouth. Couldn't decide if it was quite sweet - or weird.
. We used to have a village carnival but it died a death, like most village things; a combination of people not having the time and elf'n'safety regulations. On the subject of which, The Gate to Southwell, where the morris dancers walk [or bus it] from Nottingham to Southwell had it's last day yesterday [been going for hundreds of years apparently albeit with a gap also of hundreds of years in between] due to ef'n'safety; Flagg Point to Point has stopped [ditto] and I'm not sure about the Bacup dancers [ditto]. It's all gone bonkers imo.
