Disgusted with OH.......

I voted this morning, but NOT for UKIP.

What will Gnetters say if UKIP gains more of the votes in the European elections in the UK than any other party ??? (and no, I didn't)

Never fear mishap - I dragged DBH out to vote on your behalf. He hadn't been going to bother, but I told him he had to because of your OH. So it did have a positive outcome!

I voted last week. NOT UKIP!

There seem to be a fair number of nutters independents in the South West of England. How I wish I still lived there!

There was an unbelievable choice here...... anybody heard of The Roman Party? it was on the ballot paper [but needless to say, I didn't vote for the person, but was tempted to for a mad nano second or two.]

janerowena: I get your drift. The pluses don't really add up do they, as we can make our own smelly cheeses and we could afford to import peppers/avocados etc from our Commonwealth friends who are feeling very neglected these days.

The thing is, a protest vote could end up backfiring.

I've just spoken to my ex [a stalwart of the Labour Party] and he says he, and everyone, he knows are voting UKIP as a protest vote .

Even in our little corner of North Devon I have seen a remarkable number of UKIP posters around.

And I don't even get out much!

Even the Guardian has published a couple of articles which seem to understand why some people are feeling very threatened by the possibility of a continuing influx of unskilled labour into this country.

As Michele Hanson says, people who live in poor countries within the E U can't wait to get over here and share our comparative wealth (and who can blame them). However, it is likely to be the poor who will have to do the sharing.

I fear there will be a lot of votes for UKIP in my part of East Anglia. There was even a woman haranguing people outside the fitters where we took a tyre to repaired this morning. I went across the road to Tesco while DH waited for it to be done. He was accosted by said woman in a manner of, 'I hope you're going to vote UKIP' before loudly giving her reasons why he should.

He didn't tell me about it until we were nearly home. Probably a wise decision.

I agree the thread does make uncomfortable reading but many posters are not contributing and if they did we might get a more balanced overall view.

Let's just hope there weren't too many out there who thought like him.

Oh, I see Mishap, sorry. It wasn't clear from your OP that your DH had voted the way he did as a bit of a joke - I was assuming there was some reasoning behind his decision.

I am not ridiculing his choice, but, from my discussions with him, I know that his reasons are not ones that bear too much scrutiny, because he is in general not interested in politics and admits to knowing nothing about who he voted for or why. He just saw it as a bit of a joke. I am not amused. It is a serious matter, as the party in question has the potential to increase racial tension - that is a cause for concern and not for boasting or joking. I am very disappointed in him and his attitude - I make no excuses for that.

I always vote and have done today. Not for UKIP though. I agree with Phoenix. I would feel disrespectful to the many who fought for the vote if I didn't use it.

I tend to write "None of the above" when I want to spoil my ballot paper. I don't make a habit of it, but let's just say it has happened on more than one occasion.

I agree, everyone should have the freedom of choice to state a preference, but we should also have the freedom to say that we disagree. Keeping quiet when we see a party looking to decrease the liberty of others is wrong.
