Blasting everything in the garden that doesn't move ( and a few things that do) with a borrowed power washer yesterday afternoon. Very satisfying smile

Driving back from a day out with the 4 eldest tiddlers yesterday, listening to them chat amongst themselves about what they liked best of where we'd been and what we'd done.
Hearing the youngest (3 and a half) saying to the eldest (nearly 9) ' It was a lovely day with Granny wasn't it Alex?', gave me such a warm feeling inside, especially when the other two ( 4 and 7) chimed in with their agreement.
Made a big dent in my bank account, but hearing that made it all SO worthwhile smile

Reading the papers in bed at the weekend ( the only time we get them delivered) with a cup of tea and toast and marmalade.

Crazy remarks? silverfish it's definitely you. grin

rosesarered Sat 24-May-14 23:32:29

Ana it is! However I tried to be polite, ahem.grin

Ana Thu 22-May-14 20:37:21

I thought the phrase was 'arse over tit', roses! grin

I had to google the helicopter chair as well - it wasn't tempting...

rosesarered Thu 22-May-14 20:31:30

Aploogies that the above post didn't include flowers or kittens.

rosesarered Thu 22-May-14 20:29:43

Seeing a very smug and supercilious person fall over [arse over tip]. They didn't hurt themselves but their pride took a nasty knock.

Agus Thu 22-May-14 18:10:04

I had to google your helicopter chair Aka!! It looks lethal

Trying to exit a hammock a few years ago, I was literally 'spat' out on to pebbles and broke three ribs. OUCH!!!

Silverfish Wed 21-May-14 22:08:33

As well as sitting in a field with no shoes on, I like to just curl up on my sofa with a huge bar of chocolate to help me unwind from the sometimes crazy remarks on these forums. (is it me or is it them)

merlotgran Wed 21-May-14 22:05:27

Leaning on the kitchen worktop, looking out of the window and watching a couple of free range hens who have wandered on to the garden. Their contentment is catching.

HollyDaze Wed 21-May-14 21:51:01

Aka and Flowerofthewest - you can't beat them can you grin we were probably 'over rocked' as babies lol

Another small thing that brings a sigh of contentment is a favourite meal - tonight's sigh came from having scampi, coleslaw and petit pois. I wish I'd been this easy to please when I was younger grin

Flowerofthewest Wed 21-May-14 17:51:06

Laying on my beautiful (to me) faded and jaded swing chair in garden, cuppa by my side, book in my hands and Leonard Cohen playing in the background, low enough so that I can hear the birds. Heaven.
Oh holly sorry have stolen yours. Just read through again and we are almost twins.

KatyK Wed 21-May-14 17:22:41

A hug from my granddaughter smile

Aka Wed 21-May-14 17:06:18

I've also got a helicopter sun chair. Getting in is difficult, getting out is ...undignified ....to put it mildly. And have all my bits in working order.

I'm giving it away free to anyone who wants one. Don't be tempted by one of these. They're not simple and not pleasurable.

Galen Wed 21-May-14 17:02:26

I'd love one of those.

Aka Wed 21-May-14 17:00:59

Holly I've had one for many years me. It's a bit frayed at the edges, a little rusty and creaky (a bit like me actually) but I love it and do exactly what you say, read, swing to and fro, enjoy the sun and birds.

It's very relaxing zzzzzzzzzz

HollyDaze Wed 21-May-14 16:37:46

I've just bought a new swing thing for the garden that I can lie down on and swing gently to and fro and reading my book, enjoying the warmth from the sun and listening to the birds singing - before falling asleep! The feeling of contentment is wonderful. Nothing huge or grand I know but still very pleasurable.

sitting in the middle of a meadow under a tree with just the sounds of the countryside and the blue sky. Also in bare feet

annodomini Tue 20-May-14 18:56:12

A purry cat or kitten on my lap.

merlotgran Tue 20-May-14 18:22:14

I'm with janerowena on the cuckoo front. I've been listening out for a few days as we usually hear one in the distance but yesterday morning I was woken up about 7am by the loudest CUCKOOING I have ever heard. He must have been right outside the bedroom window.

The first cuckoo normally has me dancing around the garden singing the choral bit at the end of Mr. Blue Sky but DH spoiled the moment by grumbling, 'Tell the bloody thing to shut up' grin

NanSue, Is your housework done in record time? wine

Nelliemoser Tue 20-May-14 18:18:11

English countryside in early May.

Soutra Tue 20-May-14 18:06:38

Big soppy grin at one end and a waggy tail at the other end of a happy dog who has just spotted her lead in my hand!

shysal Tue 20-May-14 12:40:43

Lounging or pottering in the garden not caring that the house is not cleaned!

In the winter a hot bath with a good book and a snack!

Agus Tue 20-May-14 12:04:35

Definitely a good book for me too with a coffee. I then curl up on the sofa to enjoy my book but I find more and more that it makes me sleepy and I end up struggling to keep my eyes open. I eventually end up trying to read with one eye open then after that stage I am sound asleep. Day or night. It's so annoying!

suebailey1 Tue 20-May-14 10:55:10

Clean sheets
Fresh baked bread
Fresh coffee
A glass of white
A glass of red
Good chocolate

but most of all being allowed to enjoy it on my own thank heavens for the Bowls Club - bye bye husband.
