Life's little disappointments

I just had a cheque from Ernie for £25 - disappointed it wasn't £25,000, but at least it wasn't nothing!

Please to hear that someone does win the bigger prizes, Galen; perhaps they'll have a party!

Chocolate bars have got smaller.

Flowers no longer come in bunches of a dozen.

The post doesn't come early.

It used to hurt when I laughed, now I just hurt.

I have to wear flat shoes now, loved my heels.

My next door neighbour won £100,000 from Ernie

Just after my first child was born a couple of friends were due to visit us; I didn't know them very well but I was quite taken with them, they seemed very avant garde and fascinating. For some reason they couldn't come over. I can still feel the disappointment which is strange cause I've always been a tad anti social [more from shyness than anything].

Exactly phoenix as that's why they are called hot drinks [the clue is in the name.] If I have forgotten about a cup of tea or coffee I just stick it in the microwave[although you also have to turn it on, don't forget that bit.]

Hot beverages, especially tea, must be drunk HOT! Some of the chaps at work don't come to get theirs until about 10 minutes after they are made YUK!

Looking forward to a chat on the phone with a friend or relative and getting the answerphone.

I won £100 once, which is the most I have ever won on the Premium Bonds.

I sppose I would have to buy a lottery ticket to be able to win.

We had the same Lottery letdown very early on, KatyK. Having to wait till nearly 10 o'clock to find out what we'd won. I'm certainly not complaining - it was £1200 and paid for a holiday - but we thought then that 5 numbers would be enough to retire on. And the number we missed? 13. The very next week a colleague of mine won £2400 with 5 numbers.

I won £500 on the Premium Bonds in February! I always check online as soon as the results are out, and it was so exciting when £500 appeared. My mum and dad won £1000 back in the 70s and they only had a couple of hundred pounds worth of bonds. My financial advisor is always very scathing about my premium bonds, so I can't wait for his annual visit!

Looking forward to scoffing yet another of bags's special fig slices and discovering that all that remains is a wee pile of crumbs...

We have a fair few Premium Bonds between us. In the 5 years since we have had them we have never had a cheque for more than £25, although some months we have had a couple of £25 cheques. Once, when I was paying one into my bank, the teller said 'I've worked here for years and I've never seen a cheque for more than £25 from Premium Bond wins'. Saying that, many years ago when we had only a few we had a cheque for £1000. We also had 5 numbers on the Lottery not long after it had started. Our excitement knew no bounds. It was the Wednesday one in the days when you could check how much you had won via Teletext. It seemed hours before the amount came up. Guess how much? £875. I had to go to the Post Office to collect my cheque and all the assistants gathered around excitedly. When they saw the amount they said 'oh is that all?'. Still it was a nice surprise all the same.

I did win £500 many years ago but I have never met or heard through friends of anybody winning £1000 or more.

On average I win £25 x2 most months.

I got a cheque from Ernie this morning a nice surprise , so why do I feel disappointed and wonder why it can never be me who gets the cheque with lots of noughts behind the £25 for a winning Premium Bond when I've had them years and years I did win £50 about 10yrs ago.

Oh, posie, I've had one to say I'd won £2.50! I didn't realise till then that you could win so little. Those few moments of possibilities are nice though, aren't they?

I received an email this morn from national lottery to say my ticket was a winner!

Yes, I know it's still better than nothing, but just for a few minutes i had thoughts of so many lovely possibilities.

My DIL was waxing lyrical about the lovely big family house they've moved into - down a country lane, only the birds and insects to listen to in the garden, space for the children to roam - perfect. 'But you know what's disappointing about living here?' she said. 'No ice cream van!'

Or buy an insulated travel cup. That's what DH uses when working in the garden.
