Miss, Mrs or Mr, followed always by the surname.

I wouldn't have liked to be called Ma'am. The odd Miss is fine. My husband is Sir or Mr H, which he quite likes.

What should schoolkids call their teachers?

I think if the men get Sir the women should get Ma'am or, conversely, if the women get Miss (even when they are Mrs), then the men should get Mr.

At Minibags's secondary school the are supposed to call their teachers by title and surname but sometimes Miss slips out, apparently.

At my SiL's primary school, he is called by his first name, which he likes.
