On my own for Easter

Is anyone else on their own this Easter? I've never spent Easter alone. Since DH died I've had the girls around, and last year, the first without DD1, I spent Easter Sunday with DD2 and the GC. Today they're flying off on a much deserved holiday, and as well as being consumed by anxiety about them travelling, I'm feeling very sad that I'll be alone. I know, I'm a wimp. tbusad

That's true Roderick and we sometimes have to just get on with it, but sorry to hear you were alone today. Sons are not as thoughtful as daughters once they have their own families, it's a simple fact of life.
The weather hasn't been great either, a lot of storms about this week-end and some huge hailstones today.Easter over now, and things get back to normal for everyone. smile

I live on my own ,I have 2 sons in Leicester(about 10 miles away)but they have their own families.I usually go out on my scooter every day for a coffee etc but yesterday everywhere was closed,so that was a lonely day
Luckily a few places were open today
The alternative is much worse at 85

Oh, and a lovely long email from DD in Turkey just came through, so I'm content.

Oh well done, Mishap, bet you're shattered now. I used to love having all the family here but you're right, it is hard work. And yes, I'd give anything to have that option again, but life does go on, and I just count the blessings I still have. Including having someone cook dinner for me today! Have a peaceful evening. X

Mishap Sun 20-Apr-14 20:44:54

Glad you have had a good day dragonfly. I have coped! - and we have had a good time. On the whole the children have been good - chaotic, but good. They are all fed and watered now and some are even in bed!!! - maybe not asleep.

Hope you have all had a good day in your different ways.

Well, today wasn't too bad after all. I've kept myself busy, and have just returned from dinner with the lovely couple who live over the road. Gorgeous lamb roast, delightful company; life goes on, doesn't it? Hope you've all enjoyed your day, and hugs to any Granspals who've been on their own today, for whatever reason.

What an interesting and life-affirming thread this is. You are a wonderful bunch! Happy Easter everyone x

This weekend has been just an ordinary weekend. I have spent much of it in the garden dodging between showers and all my vegetables are now in the ground or in post in the greenhouse.

Our neighbours were quite shocked to hear that neither of our DC will be with us. But DS and family were with us for four days last week and we had a lovely time and DD is working, but will be with us on Tuesday when we go away together for ten days.

The only annual festival that has any deep family significance for me is Christmas and I find now I am retired bank holidays are irrelevant and, from an occupying time point of view this is just another weekend.

My family are now in the Falklands and I did have a little wobble seeing their pictures of an Easter egg hunt as I always enjoyed doing this for my grandsons. However, I totally agree that the peace and quiet are to be cherished! I could always do an Easter egg hunt for the DH to encourage his gardening enthusiasm, I suppose. tbusmile Best wishes to all who are alone (or long distance).

I'm also on my own, but this is normal. Not religious either.....have a nice Easter Egg with no milk or egg in it, a treat found by my daughter....maybe I am too old for this but it's delicious.

I am however glad my gardener has just texted me to say he will come tomorrow, his usual day.

Happy Easter to you all sunshine

I said something similar up there ^ Mishap - it does get frenetic at times doesn't it? Soon be over though.

I suppose we should count our blessings. Have a nice brew and enjoy church!

Mishap Sun 20-Apr-14 10:01:18

Thinking of you all.

But as sewsilver says, catering is very stressful and I am feeling the burden of it if I were honest. There will be 14 at lunchtime and I have to go and play in church first, so the dinner is in the oven. But the real problem is the noise level - it is extraordinary - nothing naughty, just youthful exuberance, but I am not youthful! And every time I try to round people up to eat, it is like herding cats! They have been staying and every available space is crammed - there is no room to call my own and every item of our belongings have been commandeered as part of some fantasy game.

I hope that this does not feel a tactless thing to say to those of you spending Easter on your own, but I truly feel knackered. I have taken out my hearing aids so the high frequency noise is dimmed a little! Please enjoy your peace - I am sure that you will see your dear families in manageable dribs and drabs over the year, and that does have something to recommend it.

I send all good wishes for a peaceful time. Please enjoy it.

Had a lovely long text from DD late last night to say they'd arrived safely at their holiday destination, so I feel more settled today. I think when you've experienced loss of any kind, there's a tendency to become over anxious about those you love. My heart goes out to you Sewsilver, this must be such a difficult time for you. Gally, Kitty and Seasider, thanks, have a lovely day.

flowers and (((hugs))) to everyone on their own this weekend.

Gally Sun 20-Apr-14 08:10:09

Sewsilver DragonSunseeker and everyone else on their own today flowers sunshine.
I know only too well how the emotions of loss and loneliness well up on days like today. I am lucky this year as I am surrounded with family and friends, for which I am so grateful.

Sewsilver Sun 20-Apr-14 07:50:50

Bellasnana and Dragonfly flowers. My first Easter without DH. We always used to go up to Scotland and be part of a large family group. I am lucky that I have my youngest son and his partner here. He has severe learning difficulties and she has Downs syndrome so as you can imagine its been great fun. They leave today and I will be here alone packing to move out on Friday. Every room of this house is full of memories so I don't know if it will feel better or worse to be living in my rented house.
I don't seem to remember weekends and holidays being so difficult when I lived alone before meeting DH. I think the difference is that then it was a relief to be out of a troubled marriage. Now it's just lonely and grief filled time to be got through.

Nice try though, Nonu. I think the sun should have ears this weekend. Of we have any sun, that is.....
