As you seem to have enjoyed the Limerick thread and produced some great ones, I thought it would be time for something a bit different which I found on www.kathimitchell.com/poemtypes.html which is full of good ideas. I thought we would start with this type and then move onto something harder.

ALPHABET:
Each line begins with the letters of the alphabet in order.

An example - A young girl was busy working on her project for school
But suddenly she had a question.
Could this be her lucky day?
Deciding to find out, she
Entered her backyard and
Found hundreds of green shamrocks waiting for her.

Bed and Breakfast sounded a good option, hope there are some decent stables for Xavier.

'Alas and Alack quick turn' shouted Duffy and they were back on track. This adventure was turning out to be a bit more problematical than he thought it would be. Perhaps next year he would return to Greenwich and spend a pleasant few days on the Cutty Sark.

Zarathrustra spake thus! "You should have turned right a few miles back if you wanted the hanging gardens, they will be closed now but my cousin owns a nice hotel there."

You thought she was barren?

Galen Sun 20-Apr-14 14:17:41

X-rays of the Astarte (Ishtar) showed she was pregnant

AlieOxon Sun 20-Apr-14 13:49:54

What happens when Jehovah meets Ishtar of the Babylonians?

Nelliemoser Sun 20-Apr-14 12:45:03

Veering East North East from Egypt towards Iraq, set our fearless friends on their way to "The Famous Hanging Gardens of Babylon".
Still being guided by the tireless Great Jehovah, this was indeed a very barren land.

(Whoops I am going the wrong way. Do I end up in the Arctic?)

Under the bridges of the Euphrates with you......

AlieOxon Sun 20-Apr-14 12:25:23

So maybe we can sail up the Euphrates?

Pity Saddam built his palace on the original ruins....

NanKate Sun 20-Apr-14 12:10:07

Time to move on folks. Anyone fancy going to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon ?

Nelliemoser Sun 20-Apr-14 10:25:58

OOPS "find" deleted.

Suspicious of any possible benefits of having his brain scraped out through his nose and being left to decorate a Pharaoh's tomb, Duffy decided to give that experience a miss and went off to hide in find Xavier's stable.

Right, dead right - they mummified them too. The cat goddess had the rather doubtful name of Bastet...

Elegran Sun 20-Apr-14 08:47:49

Question from Duffy - didn't they worship cats in ancient Egypt? This is the place for me!

NanKate Sun 20-Apr-14 07:57:34

Peeking above the horizon a great pyramid appears. Fab thinks Duffy I hear the vermin round this gaff are large and juicy. A bit of sightseeing will be good too.

Mmmmmm that's nice said Xavier who was rather enjoying it
Now might be the time to come
Out of this medieval closet!

Lovely, thought Sir G - no need for SatNat now I have the Hand to guide me. I'll just have a kip on Zavier's back until we reach our destination!

Nelliemoser Sat 19-Apr-14 20:51:11

Knowing that Sir G had truly repented the Great Jehovah will now guide this pilgrim (Sir G) through this barren land. He (Sir G) is weak and (Jehovah) is mighty and will guide (Sir G) with his powerful hand.

So that is all sorted for now.

Jumping Jackdaws said Duffy, who had decided to clean up his language, I will have to lead this expedition myself. He sets the sat nav mounts the horse and tells Sir G to jump up behind him and hang on. This is going to be a bumpy ride.

"I stand corrected!" he sobbed, having said his penance. But as he was in a stressful situation, he felt sure the Almighty would forgive him, just this once...

Nelliemoser Sat 19-Apr-14 20:19:41

Having been brought up in a religious household, Sir G knew that really he should not have taken the Lord's name in vain just then. As he felt guilty he wandered off to say a few Hail Mary's as a penance.

Ana Sat 19-Apr-14 19:58:09

Good God! exclaimed Sir G (who had been brought up in a religious one). Hold your horses, or horse in this case, we haven't got a clue which signpost to follow!

NanKate Sat 19-Apr-14 19:54:45

F**** Nora exclaimed Duffy (who had been brought up in a rather rude household) when are we are off to the Great Pyramid ?

Ana Sat 19-Apr-14 18:51:51

'Er, well no one could spell it, least of all me, so I changed it by Deed Poll a week last Wednesday...' he confessed.

Nelliemoser Sat 19-Apr-14 18:51:12

Even Sir G, as in awe as he was of his horse, knew that Xavier although clever enough was a tad dyslexic and when stressed tended to spell phonetically.
