down 'ere, my lovely...
What medical conditions seem more common now than when you were growing up?
I have a "friend" who has been married for 43 years January gone.
Her husband
has announced that he will be going to watch Norwich City play on Easter Sunday, right out the blue, bearing in mind he will be going to Newmarket on Thursday for the racing , not taking my "Friend "
incidentally.
The other thing is the family will be arriving tomorrow for the week, is my "friend " right to be jeffin annoyed with said husband.
I myself am mightly -pissed-- off !!

Is there fun Ariadne? Where?
I want some!
Fun?
I have had experience of this sort of thing over 46+ years. DH is better than he was, however!
Perhaps your friend's husband has just realised [like me] that Ch4 aren't showing the Craven meeting on telly [grrrr]
.....
rosequartz!
I've got some sympathy for your "friend" Nonu, because my ex-husband used to do this sort of thing all the time. I think the worst one was when his sister from Canada, and her hubby and daughters, arrived on our doorstep unexpectedly as a 'nice surprise' one Sunday morning. He had arranged to go fishing, and still went.... leaving me to entertain them all day!
He said it was a darn cheek of them to turn up unannounced, and I suppose it was, but......... !!!!
Coincidentally, I have a Delia Smith cookery book next to my PC as I was copying a recipe for my DN. She is smiling at me, but I am now going to put her face down. There!
I think you are a very caring 'friend' Nonu.
I think if it was my DH I would have got the shits been rather displeased and let him know in no uncertain terms. Then told him to go off and enjoy himself anyway. She can always withdraw his Easter chocolate or whatever pleases him the most and get her own back.
She needs to make sure that she and her family have a wonderful time and that they should all let him know that they enjoyed themselves immensely without him.
Oh, I do sound spiteful. Even more - I hope Liverpool give Norwich a thrashing (well, I would hope that anyway).
Oh KITTY know what you mean about the fixture list, she goes to the U.S. A with him and if he is missing a match he has a little grumble, so tells him "get over it".
What about this then last year because of the time difference , she was watching a match with him at 6am.
Now I call that devotion, I wouldn't do it !
Laugh !
nonnie right on the money , Laugh !
I have had a word with my "Friend" this morn and she has decided to let him get on with , who cares she said! As I said to her once the little poppets arrive this afternoon you won"t give two hoots about he does !
I just thank my lucky stars Mr N is not like this , he is PERFECT so much so that he farts rainbows !!
Thanks for all the good advice everyone and also the little laughs we had.
Enjoy the rest of the day and week if I am not around much .
If I was your friend Nonu I would tell the errant husband that I was taking a day off too and that he would have to sort himself out food wise then I would go out for lunch or to the cinema maybe with a friend and get back when it suited me.
I think he is a selfish b****r
Having been married to DH for nearly 44 years, and loving him dearly, I wouldn't dream of arranging something without checking the fixture list. All the children, apart from DD1 who gets really annoyed about it, understand that football is important as he takes DS1, who is disabled and football mad - well at least that's his excuse!!
Currently, their team is doing so badly that I think they would welcome a family Easter rather than having to go to football!!
Yesterday, we had a piece of pork which had been in the freezer since Christmas and jolly nice it was too!!
I suspect your 'friend' expected this as she has been married to him for 43 years! She knows exactly what he is like as he has done this before. How do I know? Guess! Your 'friend's' husband has probably agreed that football will never take the place of important family events but when such an event comes up this is the one match of the season he cannot miss. Am I right?
The family also know what he is like and will not be the least bit surprised.
I hope they lose and that Delia throws a stale hot cross bun at him.
Absent why can't you see this is a fun thread?
Different picture now the GS on the scene. I would so load the guilt on him. ("that little boy loves his grandad and all you can do is walk away from him. he won't be this age for ever you know" - you get the picture)
I can't understand why the Grandad can't take his devoted grandson to the match with him. Good bonding time. I'd also use the time on my own when he's gone racing to get ready for the visitors if they haven't yet arrived and if they have I'd take them out for a nice pub lunch. Where's the problem?
Don't worry Nonu Norwich will in all probability lose and your 'friend's DH will be unbearably miserable and need drive home time to get over it. If, by some miracle they win, your 'friends DH' will be equally unbearably ecstatic. The racing on the other hand is inexcusable.
Sorry, getting mixed up, meant to say I hooe your friend lets you know, etc...
nonu, maybe the GS will persuade grandad not to "go off". I hope "your friend" lets us know how the day goes and that you let us know. I also hope everyone enjoys themselves and has a lovely day.
absent, my thinking was similar to yours.
I can see the funny side of this thread too.
Nonu I think your 'friend' should find time before Thursday to share a bottle of wine with her husband and explain that his thoughtlessness has rather upset her. Given that your 'friend' and her husband usually get along well together he will probably see the error of his ways, apologise and suggest a weekend away in an hotel where your 'friend' can then dress up in her finery and relax having worked so hard looking after their guests over Easter. It would prove a well deserved break.
Whatever happens I wish you, your 'friend' and the various families a very Happy and forgiving Easter.
LONA she does that all the time , what irks her is that the GS will be here and will be sad to see G/d go off.
Because as we all know , there is no-one lilke Grandad
x
Nonu It's a good job 'your friend' loves him so much
.
Think of all the brownie points you'll she'll get, if you she just smiles nicely and murmurs "Have a good time honey"

Football fixtures have been known for a long time. My DH is a footie fan. I write the matches on the calender knowing he will be at the matches: that is his recreation. Sometimes I find it a nuisance that footie clashes with the only date that friends can make it but I just get on with it. He is free to choose what he wants to do & here for other events/occasions. Family is important and he is part of the family so free to do what he wants as much as anyone else. I would say, if it was a family visit that only happens occasionally, that it would be good if he was there and let him choose. He rarely makes the wrong choice
Absent what is wrong? Something must be.
